Im having major problems when I watch my Direct TV w/ the HDMI audio and video running through my AVR...every time I change the channel it makes a popping sound through my speakers. Ive changed HDMI cables, Direct TV box, and Surge protector...what should I do now. Btw-This is my second HK AVR354 to do this, they just sent me a new one last week.

Have you tried sending the audio to AVR with a different type cable? Do you have any optical or even stereo RCA's to help and determine if it is being generated by the Sat. receiver? I am taking a SWAG here but it sounds like a HDMI issue. It sounds like when you switch channels it is loosing the HDMI connection then reestablishing it.

Lots of HDMI issues for some with the 354 do you have the latest firmware?

Yes I have the new update on my AVR....It seems to have helped with the noise for the first couple of minutes then it just goes back to what it has been doing...I've spoken w/ HK several times on this matter and they sent me a refub AVR two weeks and same problems. Now they say they'll send me a brand new HK 354....I dont see what that will help? What should I do? Im going to try and hook the opticals up and see what happens

I would see what I get with the optical. That way you can hopefully rule out the sat. receiver. I suppose there could be a problem with only the HDMI out of the sat. receiver. I know you have changed that out as well but just might be some strange compatibility issue. How loud is this popping compared to the source volume? One "pop" or multiple when you advance 1 channel? Does it pop if you select the sat menu, then return to your source without changing a channel? Did you try the link out in my first post? It looks huge but try a search and it might shorten the read time down for you? I know there are a lot of HK users here so hopefully an owner can add more. When you switched HDMI cables, did you switch with the one that goes to your TV or a new one? I'm thinking you probably bought those together so they are from the same manufacturer, so maybe one of a different brand will work better. But you need to try and figure out where this pop is originating, sat. receiver, AVR, or cabling. I would shoot at the optical first, as you plan on.

I got a new Sat Box, A new Hdmi cable, a refurb AVR...Ive tried everything other than the opticals. But wont I than have to hook up RCA cables up for video? The popping sound is when I change sources or channels

I would think your sat. box should have component vid out as well as HDMI. This should give you = or almost = PQ as HDMI. This is the 3 conductor cable not the single composite RCA vid cable.

I hope the new 354 fixes your problem but it would seem as though they would have a firmware release out that fixes the problem if the new units are "fixed". Unfortunately it does sound like this is a HK bug.

So I need both the optical and Cond cables right? for both audio and video

I agree, and hope for HK owner's that it is firmware and does get fixed, but I don't think all users are seeing this......so it probably isn't an easy/quick fix. Luckily HK does seem to be trying, although from some owners perspective not fast enough. That's one of the down sides of new technology that many others are or have had trouble with. With the economy/market where it is today those that can not deal with it effectively will have a hard time sticking around.
