TT pre-amp a necessity?

SteveinAZ's thread got me thinking...is a separate tt pre-amp a necessity for hooking up a tt, even if one's my pre-amp is equipped with Phono RCA posts (I've never hooked up a tt but I just checked the back of my pre and found that there are two RCA posts labeled "AUX / phono"

Is that sufficient for hooking up a tt, or would I need a separate tt pre?

    If you are talking about your Parasound P3, it has one input that can be used for moving magnet (MM) phono cartridges, so you wouldn't necessarily need one as long as you were using a normal MM cartridge.
