DAC only before the pre / pro? So a CD player can use the optical output to the AVR > Pre amp > Amp?

Can you be a bit clearer. Connecting a CD player to an AVR via the optical input will use the AVR's DAC. An external DAC provides an analog output, so it needs to be connected to the CD analog input of the AVR.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

my man I didn't know you had a servo 15?? I just saw it in your list. Nice man thats a monster sub you got. It's finally going bye bye and being replaced by an even better Servo sub. They are simply called Sub 10 , Sub 12 , Sub 15 , Sub 25. They have built in calibration now. Paradigm really can build a super killer sub.
    They got nice speakers 2.

So I'm a little confused about your question, what are you trying to do? if you want to use a external DAC with your CD player, no problem, run optical or Coax depending on what the DAC has IN and then run Analog single ended out of the DAC or balanced which ever it has to your INPUT of your receiver or preamp. It's like a inline thing Bro.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks :) I love that sub, I think others like it also. I brought it the PF on a couple times at least, the first time it was idea, then I was asked if I could bring another PF :D

Ok I know sometimes I not clear, then other times I used the wrong word. I wonder where my mind is at times. Many people think my mind is just overloaded at times I just have like 50 ideas going in there.

So I want to use a pre amp for my 2 channel stuff to get out of my AVR 2 channel system. Now I use XM, CD changer, SACD player, but because I use these source for my whole house system also by RG6 RCA 30' cables. I need to use the digital outputs of XM and the CD changer player, without a DAC's could I use the digital outputs from these players to the AVR receiver to the Pre-amp to the Power amps? A signal which isn't controlled by the AVR like the Tape output, but that didn't work. I don't like what AVR receivers do with 2 channels output when you use an AVR for HT also. They seem to screw with your 2 channel output also.

LOL:) I trying to use an AVR like a DAC only at times. Not what its doing now DAC then process it to control the output to an power amp. Need a fix output just like a DAC to a pre amp so it can control the volume.

Does your AVR have a 2nd/3rd room feature? It may work for that, but many of the AVRs will only work with analog signals for multi-room output. Read your manual closely and see if it says anything about that feature.

Otherwise, the only thing similar would be if your AVR has pre-outs, but those are usually volume controlled to go straight to an amp. As far as minimizing the processing on the signal for 2-ch, use pure direct or whatever comparable feature your AVR has.
