Does this receiver exist?

I am looking for a receiver to hook up my parents home theater system. They have 5.1 speakers, a DVD player, cable box and a HD TV.

Ideally, I would like to hook everything up to the receiver and have one wire going to the TV. The problem is that each component has a different wiring method.

The DVD has component.
The Cable Box has HDMI or component.
The TV accepts everything but S-Video.

What I have found with their current receiver, is that 'component in' only runs 'component out'...similarly, 'HDMI in' only runs 'HDMI out'...which means I need to use 2 video inputs on my TV.

I want to do this with only one video input used on the TV (HDMI). All other devices will be hooked up using the other wires but the picture is tranferred to the TV with the HDMI.

I hope this makes sense and am only wondering if it exists or is common.

You need an AVR that does full internal switching. How much do you want to spend? I think we could come up with something at your price point.

Since the HD box has component outputs, why don't you use those?

HD broadcast is 720p/1080i native and should go happily through the component outputs.

Not that hard to do these days. You just need to check the manual of whatever you are buying that it cross converts all analog input sources to one analog output (component, for instance) or analog input sources to one digital output (HDMI). It can be tricky to find this out without either sending an e-mail to customer service or downloading the manual of the intended purchase and reading it carefully.

This used to be quite a rare capability in my experience, but not any more, so "yes" it does exist, and you could also use only component cable for all of your inputs and single output to the TV, as has been already suggested by ViperZ, if you don't mind limiting picture quality to 720p/1080i.
    Alea jacta est!
