2009 System Upgrades?

Just curious what the plans for 2009 was for some folks systems?

I have a few up my sleeve I think. Will have to see how the year pans out for me and cash flow.

Of course the one secret out of the bag is the possibilities of new mains... first try failed for me but the second try I am sure will be great.

From there -- I am thinking a power regenerator to clean up my dirty power.

From there, a cable upgrade - MIT shotgun has caught my ear from the forum. So I am thinking I may give it a shot.

From there, (actually probally the 2nd thing on the list) - send in my Candela, get it brought up to current spec and get the HT Bypass reworked to work with all preamps and not just some...

And if I am still in the mood to tweak -- room treatments baby... :) I'm thinking a ceiling panel (two) -- back wall and directly behind the speakers...

Just curious what everybody else may have planned?

Finish up on the the custom speakers I'm currently working on, and possibly build another pair.

I have my source, cables, and amps covered, so it's time to find a preamp.

Hoping when I get home from my 4 month deployment in August or so, the wife will let me use some of my war money to get an external amp so I can bring my system to life. Looking at Emotiva XPA-3, or maybe an XPA-5, or who knows maybe something else.

My plans for the year are to get my rig set up period...lol

I'll be (temporarily) finishing off my HT setup first, with some RTi8's for the fronts, RTi6's for the surrounds, a CSi5 center channel and an Infinity BU2 sub that I'm getting a great deal on. The sub will eventually be upgraded, but not until next year. I'm looking into an SVS PB12-NSD for when I upgrade the sub.

After that, I'll be setting up a dedicated 2 ch. rig for my Peerless Monitor 7A's. I'm most likely going to end up going with an Adcom GFA-565 for the pre-amp and an Adcom GFA-555 for the power amp. Not the end all setup by any means, but I'm working with a bit of a budget right now.

The source for both rigs is going to be a Cambridge DVD89 universal player for the time being. A dedicated SACD player for the 2 ch. will be coming along eventually, but I probably won't be able to swing that until next year.

Once I have the 2 ch. rig set up, I'll be getting new cabling all around. I'm looking into Signal Cable's for the HT rig, with Canare 4S11 speaker cable. I have an AQ Black Mamba IC that will be getting moved to the 2 ch. rig, and I'm going to get another Black Mamba to go with it. I'll most likely end up going with AQ Type 4 for the 2 ch. speaker cables.

That's probably about all I'm going to be able to squeeze into the budget this year, but I think I'll be pretty happy with the results.:D

New tweeters, go active woofers on my SDA's, finish my pre, and get into something that glows. I tried nuclear waste, but my hair is starting to fall out.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

The HT room gets a Mapleshade upgrade; new speaker wire, 5 ICs between pre and amp, 2" maple speaker stands, possibly a Blu-Ray player if the new Terminator movie is worthwhile. Just purchased a new SACD player for the living room.

Also, I just received a Music Direct catalog today, and there is Claudio 9v power supply upgrade for the Wadia iTransport that looks promising. I need to research this a bit, maybe tomorrow at work. And, now that I think of it, maybe another Wadia for the HT room, since I have a Benchmark Dac1 in there that is 99% idle now that I have the living room working for 2 channel

The stereo Polk System will probably get a total revamp. Replace A7s with A9s, Rotel RC-1082 with RB-1080 add Elemental Designs A7S-450/LT1300/EQ.2 crossed over where it should be, really low; boring this system will not be.:D

For 2-channel, none for me this year.

For HT, update the pre/pro and get a blu-ray player.

Already made my purchase for the time being (Pass Aleph 30). I'm just going to enjoy it for awhile. The synergy in my rig right now is off the charts.....no use 'effing with it. recently I have tried a couple pre's and a tube dac and the synergy wasn't up to snuff.

I'm also getting my music server (squeezbox) up and running with music; no small task....very time consuming.

    1. Finish my active crossover to get ready for

    2. the bass cabinets I'm building that also will function as stands for my single driver Fonkens.

After that, if I can swing it, start on one of the Tubelab Simple SE amps that Nick built. I'd like to replace the Trends integrated that's currently powering the Fonkens with a Simple SE running EL-34's in triode.

Then I'll start worrying about IC's, power cords, and speaker cables.

What i'd like to do this year.

RTi A9's to replace RTi A7's
FXi A6 to compare/replace my RTi A3's (used as surrounds)
    Sunfire 5200 (possibly)
Pioneer Elite SC-05/07 to replace my 92 (maybe)
Subwoofer (not sure what kind yet)
    Dedicated CD Player
    New Component Rack/TV Stand

I think that's about it, only time will tell though. :D

Well I took one big step by purchasing RT1's BAT VK-60 mono blocks. I'm also looking at purchasing some Von Schweikert VR-4JR speakers in the next month. Those are the two major upgrades. I'll probably buy some MIT speaker cables, a new power conditioner, an SACD player, a new audio rack, and some additional odds and ends by the time I'm finished.

My next step is to get a big 2 channel amp for my SDA's in the H/T rig. Maybe Adcom 555 or the NAD C272.

After that I'd like to do the TL upgrade on both sets of my SDA's. just trying to get everything else in place 1st.

Bought a Pioneer BDP-51FD blu-ray player 3 weeks ago. I'm done for 2009, unless a really nice pre/pro hits the market, and actually works without any bugs.

Both of my systems are in disarray right now, therefore just putting them together would be considered an achievement for me.

    For the HT....

    - adding a center-channel speaker to my existing 2.1 HT system
    - adding surround speakers (Radio Shack Minimus 7s) and possibly making them wireless
    - no plan for Blu-ray player....for now
    - if budget permits, add phono pre-amp and put in Technics SL-BD20B turnatable
    - if budget permits, replace stock cartridge on Technics turntable with either Grado or Audio-Technica replacement
    - if budget permits, replace interconnect and power cord to Technics turntable

    For the 2-channel system

    - if budget permits, purchase Technics SL-1200 turntable
    - will be selling Cambridge Audio A500 integrated amp to finance purchases
    - will be selling Sony SCD-CE595 SACD/CD changer to finance purchases
    - will be selling PS Audio Prelude speaker cables to finance purchases
    - may be selling Energy Connoisseur C-1 bookshelf speakers to finance purchases
    - may be selling Monitor Audio Bronze B2 bookshelf speakers to finance purchases
    - finally install Sony TA-S7 integrated amp
    - mating Entec DAC to either Pioneer DV-414 DVD/CD player or Sony DVP-NS500V SACD/DVD/CD player for CD playback

Plan on getting rid of my LSi speakers in the next few months.. Gonna step it up to some Salk SongTower RT's instead. Maybe try a pair of Epik 18" Dragon's, since I don't have any subwoofers since my sale of the older SVS PCU's.

This year I already replaced my older Pio 74 AVR with an SC-07, 74 is now doing bedroom duties. Moving my old Panny 8UK plasma to the bedroom, mounting my Pioneer 111FD thats sitting on the floor when I get home here in May. Might grab the new Oppo 83 BD player when it comes out, thats about it.

2 channel power amp. Not sure which yet...Parasound? Adcom? Rotel?....? A lot to hear! 200/250 watts x 2.

Trying to upgrade for two channel. Don't care much about amping all surrounds. Only run a 5.1 system and want to get my fronts more power for stereo.

Update! I'm also going to be upgrading the XO's in my Peerless Monitor 7A's. This is probably going to be my last mod this year...I probably won't get to it until the end of the year. That'll be a good project for next winter.

I'm probably going with Solen caps and Mills resistors. I'm going to rewire the cabinets, and apply Moretite to all of the drivers. I'll also probably swap out the chintzy stock binding posts for some Vampires.:)
