That's awesome. I am sure it will be used mostly by the rap crowd, buit it sure is cool to see a good TT showing up at WalCheese.

I bet you'd get strange looks from the Walmart clerks when you go pick it up....$400.00 for a turntable??!! The Technics probably cost more than any of Walmart's HTiB systems :D

Now contemplating whether I should actually buy one of these beasts. Been wanting to get one ever since my college days in the late 80s.

I bought the Project TT for $350(now $400 shipped). The platter sucks(new platter $150 shipped), and nearly every owner that has tried the speed control box has said it is nearly a necessity(another $180). The 1200 has both those under control out the box. Direct drive opponents will say DD is no good, but the 1200 table was designed to be well damped to deal with the vibrations of night club SPL's. If I were to do it again I would have the 1200.

That price must have just come down recently. I remember the price on those being a little higher not to long ago.

Perhaps J&R will price-match either Amazon or Walmart? J&R is selling its SL-1200 at $450.00 + shipping.

I guess the yen/$ ratio is getting better or something. The price on those tables has really dropped. I imagine sales are slowing too.

EDIT: Yes, I checked. $1=98 yen. Not long ago, it was like 120yen for each $.
We should be seeing better prices on some of those Japanese cartridges too, but I just checked an most are still holding the higher prices they went to a couple years back.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

    +1
I saw a nightclub dj (small guy) get on the platter of a 1200 and do the twist then play a record when done. My friend used to maintain the house sound there could not believe it...but the table was ok after that.

Looks like Wally World is picking up where CC left off.

Am I remembering BIC as a decent speaker maker back in the day?

Never heard BIC speakers. I do have a BIC 960 turntable project at home that I am fixing for someone. The bearing lube would turn to glue and the platters would sieze up. Much easier to fix than speed controllers.;)

Are you interested in trying out the old platter that I used to have on my Debut? I sprayed the damn thing with automotive undercoating. Worked like a charm to deaden the ringing. As far as I can hear I did a pretty good job of keeping the thickness uniform, no obvious (audible) issues caused by it being out of balance.

I like my Debut, I know there are better things out there, but it suits my fine for now.

I appreciate the offer. I "dynamatted" the piss out of mine! It helped a lot. Also if you re install the shipping screws to the motor it help a lot. The rubber suspension keeps all the vibration in the motor. When tightened down the plinth's mass takes the vibration fairly well. I know a lot of people will say the plinth will transfer the vibration to the tonearm, but it does sound better tightened down. Steven Hoffman's forum has been a big help. I don't hate my TT, I just expected it to be a sizable step up from my cheap Technic's TT I had before. When I catch up on projects I am going to make a two tier plinth setup. One for the motor, and one for the rest:) I would like to try the speed control box too, but I can't fork out the coin for it now. I am thinking about building a speed control box with an LM3886 amp chip, and a signal generator.

I tried bolting the motor down with the shipping screws and didn't care for the sound. I've got a pretty good set up in regards to draing energy out of the table, which I think helps. Right now I've got the Debut spiked into a 3/4" birch ply shelf with three one pound brass spikes. The birch shelf's supported by four of the Mapleshade Isoblocks, which are resting on top of a shelf that's 6 inches of MDF; two boards made of two 3/4" pieces glued together with Liquid Nails, which are then glued together with Green Glue. Then I painted the whole thing with more sound deadening/undercoating. It's sitting on spikes which are attached to heavy duty metal brackets that are attached to the foundation of my house. Basically, if I hear a new record skip, I know my house is falling down around me.

WOW....when Wally mart starts selling TT for $400...things are getting out of hand.
The compuplus price for the M5G...is outstanding. $140 less then the KAB price. I am now sorelly tempted to buy that, then thru money at my SL1700.

Has anybody bought anything from them? Good, bad?

I would have bought that over my BOL ProJect if it was that price a year ago. A lot of used 1200 tables are going for $250+

Hahah, nice thread rebirth! I absolutely would have picked some up for $335 shipped! I paid about $450 each for both of my SL-1200s mk2 back in 2000. 12 years later, they're still working as good as they did the first day I used them. Now that they're discontinued you know damn well I'll never be giving them up!

I'm running one with a lot of the KABUSA mods and I love it. Have you been pricing these things lately? The prices on these things are going sky high since they were discontinued. I don't hardly ever see one used on Craigslist anymore for below $450-500 and that is for some highly abused dj decks. I'm glad I got mine back when I did. I paid $175 used for mine of course I probably have about $1000 in mods now, but it sounds fantastic!
