As Jstas said, this is where you are supposed to be. Focus on finishing school. Don't be in too big of a hurry to move out, because once you do the realities of what things cost & how small your paychecks really are is a BIG shock.

Better to stay, build up funds (but putting something towards family expenses) and move out when you have a financial cushion, then to move out right away & have to come back because life kicked you in the teeth.

Thanks. I work at an architectural firm (http://www.fandtgroup.com/) and go to school studying Physics and Engineering. I'm definitely going to grad school for something Engineering related and will probably go for a PhD in Physics. So I could get an apartment near school for now, but would like to move out by the time I'm 21.

Take it from someone who did move out at 18, wait as long as possible, save your money. Working 60-100 hours a week to pay rent is not the way to live life at this age. I'm 22 and going back to school because of this.

Staying at home with the parents until you are on your feet financially is a very good idea. This economy, especially now, is way too unstable to make a good go of things when you are trying to work, live and go to school at the same time.

If your parents have their house paid off, the extra security of knowing that no matter how bad things get, they can't take your house away from you is a good feeling. Same goes with a car. I am very glad that I own everything outright. If I hadn't stayed with my parents until I got married, I wouldn't have been able to do that. I was able to save money and concentrate on school and later, work, so that I could put a pile of money away. Then my wife (now ex-wife) decided it would be more fun to try and spend all off my saving (she came close), attempt to get me fired from work (came close on that one too) and run up bills to a debt level equivalent to a small mortgage (took me 3 years of dumping my entire paycheck in to bills to get it paid off). There are more reasons why she is an ex.

But seriously, if it wasn't for the help my parents afforded me in my early adulthood and even after my divorce battering, I would be much worse off. But now, the only money I owe anyone is what I borrowed from my mom to get my life back in order. I've already started paying her back. So take it easy. Don't try to be all grown up so fast. Concentrate on school and who cares about who makes fun of you for living at home with the 'rents. You're doing something with your life and one day you will have a degree or a few and a job doing some cool work. Hell, look at me! 12 years at a defense contractor working on Ballistic Missile Defense (rocket science), Combat Information Systems (radar and weapons guidance) and Homeland Security (border patrol, search and rescue operations and electronic surveillance systems). I left that job and now I work for one of the largest private reinsurance companies in the world heading up their Data Loss Prevention projects (web proxies, email and network monitoring, firewall security, EAP and IDM environments for a global IT infrastructure). I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on advancing myself and getting to this point in my career without taking advantage of the rent-free deal my parents made me. Sure school was expensive but I paid of school debt in less than 10 years, bought 3 vehicles, live on my own, paid cash for a wedding and unloaded rough $92K in debt since I graduated in 2000. And I'll tell you something, going to school to do the really cool work will get you paid well. The paychecks are nice but when you are getting those paychecks and you are raking in tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands a year, the expendable income due to a non-existent debt load is VERY nice. I know some are hurting in this economy and would love to be in your shoes so make the best of the opportunity presented to you.

Take your time, kid. Life sucks when you're an adult. Sure, you make it what you can but you don't get nearly as many opportunities for free time and fun as an adult as you do when you're a kid. I don't wish I was a kid anymore, I just wish I had that free time and expandable income again.

I added a few items to my little mancave in the last couple of weeks....brought in some Carver Silver 7t's to power my RT800i's/Audio Concepts AV1's...brought in my 2 eD 15" subwoofers ( Kept the TC Sounds TC2K in there as well...and moved out the other 2 TC Sounds TC3K's to the livingroom...so still 3 15" subs in the mancave ) ...added the ELT525M monitors I just got from Jeff ( Jephdood ) to bring me back up to 7.3 :) ....and also put my new Pioneer AVR in there as well.

Using all of the preamp outs to discrete amplifiers for all channels (Carver 7t's L and R...Audiosource AMP300 center...Carver TFM-35X for the SDA 2b surrounds...Audiosource AMP 200 for the ELT back surrounds...3 RF2000 amps for the subs )

No No No....in the mancave that functions as a speaker damping device...it only looks like a shotgun :) It actually has 2 huge springs inside the rear, and it dampens by 80% big booms that could cause a rattle. :p

The light is a rover LED a friend gave it to me along with a fog machine so I said what the heck and mounted it. Its more a novelty than anything, the chicks seem to dig it :D. Sometimes it gives a different experience to my listening time depends on the music mainley techno. During my clubbing days techno/house was in so sometimes I like to listen to some techno. Its also sound activated.

Comments and ideas are welcome. I think it still needs something, maybe some plants or a dark area rug?
