My retreat so far ... what hangs from above and what I face when listening to music. Too bad there is no other location in the house for the HT stuff at this time.

Can you explain in further detail? There's a large rug in the room but I haven't done anything with acoustic panels or so, if that's what you mean...

Yes. That's what I am asking. I would think that the room would have a very "bright" sound with all the hard surfaces and only a rug to absorb sound.

Whether the room is bright or not would be system dependant and a matter of personal taste.what is bright to some could be percieved as lively to others.metal tweeters could take it over the top though

JM1, Interesting. Thanks for the link.

Here's a few pics of mine. Lots of acoustic panels have made this 10x13 room sound a lot better than it should. I am waiting for a long IC to move the sources and pre to a side wall, and just leave the amp between the speakers.

Hello, heres a few pics of mine. I got it finished off last fall. I let the wife enjoy it too once in awhile:)

All the cabinetry, table, bookcases, walls, ceiling, and finish work was done by myself. Didn't do the electrical or carpeting. Theres a "false room" behind the entertainment center where I can walk into and do any cabling.

That library table the turntable is on is an antique...

Still waiting on my sx-950 to get back from the restoration shop...

Does it matter? With the way things are going, lots of people are living with relatives, be in parents or others, because of hard financial times. The only issue anyone might have is that you are claiming your parents living room as your own and that's a little underhanded.

Otherwise, lighten up. You're not the only one here living with the 'rents.

As for my "man cave". Don't really have a "man cave". Never really liked that term anyway. But I'm in the middle of a process of purchasing a house from a family member that can no longer stay there due to medical reasons. I have a ton of work to do to it. First and foremost, the garage has to get finished off. I've already sourced the lift! :D Once that is done the bathroom gets redone. Then new floors have to get put in along with some cosmetic shaping up.

However, it is a 1 story rancher style home but it has a full length, finished basement. It was finished back in 1976 though and the owners never updated it. But, since it is already finished, I don't need permits or anything because it's remodeling. So if I'm going to have a "man cave" of sorts, that's where it will be. With a 60 inch Pioneer plasma at one end and a kegerator at the other bookmarking a billiards table in the middle!

Well, I buy the gear and everyone in the family gets to use it. Not claiming the room as my own or anyone else's.

I was just a little embarassed about living at home. Will move out when I'm 20 or 21.

You're a frickin' TEENAGER and you're embarrassed about living at home? That's where you're SUPPOSED to be living!

Get over it, kid. There are worse things in life than to be living with your parents or have some people on the Internet think less of you because of it.

My house has always been a mancave. My idea of household furnishings was always cool looking audio racks, big subs all over and several different systems. Oh yeah, and I had a couch, table and a bed...

As Jstas said, this is where you are supposed to be. Focus on finishing school. Don't be in too big of a hurry to move out, because once you do the realities of what things cost & how small your paychecks really are is a BIG shock.

Better to stay, build up funds (but putting something towards family expenses) and move out when you have a financial cushion, then to move out right away & have to come back because life kicked you in the teeth.

Thanks, yes they do, very expensive though.....I also have an air to air exchanger for the basement that I run once in awhile, really helps in the winter when everything is closed up.
