Burned by Circuit City on RC85i's

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I hope someone can give me a suggestion on what I need to do.

Last week I purchased a set of RC85i in wall speakers from Circuit City, who is currently in liquidation/bankruptcy. Yesterday I got around to installing the speakers and found that one of the woofers was blown. Today I took the speakers back to Circuit City in an attempt to exchange the speakers. I was (rudley) informed that they were sold out of the speakers and that I was basically out of luck because they would be giving no refunds, further, my reciept convieniently disappeared sometime during the fiasco. Since it was Circuit City I asked them to reprint my reciept, but was told that they no longer were "on that computer system". After a half hour of arguing with the manager, trying to get them to let me exchange them for something fully functional, I returned home with the broken, evidently previously owned pair of speakers. I now have two large holes in my living room wall and a pair of broken speakers. I stumbled across this forum while trying to find a fix to my problem. I do have the box, with the proof of purchase. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to help me resolve the problem? Oh, and by the way, stay away from Circuit City.

Contact Polk Customer Service at the number above and I am sure that they will be able to help you. Don't bother with CC--because their regular staff is mostly gone...only those A-h liquidators are selling.

Give that a shot; if you have proof of purchase you should have a warranty from Polk.

Anyone else...thoughts on this. Am I right?

Does Polk have service centers where I may be able to find a replacement woofer relatively quick. I have family coming in town and would like to get the holes filled before they get here. I still have the monitor 30's I was using for rears that I had intended to replace with the RC85i's.

I don't know that, maybe someone does. But I do know that they can deliver parts, replacements pretty quickly if asked.

Give them a call and ask--they very good about problems.

Probably not. your best bet is to make a call or email first thing in the morning. They should be under warranty, but they may need to see a receipt. Polk CS is 2nd to none. They will help if they can. Make the call.

I just sent them an e-mail, I'll follow up with a call in the morning. It would be nice to find a company that still stands behind their products. They are getting fewer and fewer everyday. Thanks for the quick responses. B

With family coming into town, I would call Polk and place them in the wall to fill the holes. Then replace bad woofer later, when you get it and when you can replace it.

That's what I'll probably do, I just didn't know if Polk would want me to send them the entire speaker or if they would send me a replacement woofer.

Did you pay with cash or credit/debit card ?? If you paid by card, tell your carrier and they'll take care of getting a refund from the seller. If cash....talk to PolkAudio. Good luck!:)

You also need to understand that CC had nothing to do with your purchase. The liquidators are selling off the inventories and under that circumstance, no returns, no refunds. You should have known that going in.

That said, Polk CS service is second to none. They will probably help you out. Remember to be nice to them.

I was aware of that going in. What I wasn't aware of was the fact that they were selling me speakers that had been returned to the store. I didn't go into that since it was somewhat irrelevant to the question I was asking. When I returned home and inspected the boxes I found that the speakers had been opened from the bottom by whomever purchased them before I did. They were resealed by either the first buyer or Circuit City and sold as new to me. Just something more to add to my aggravation.

You are better off going with Polk CS, because unfortunately you are out of luck with CC. Their stuff is sold as is with no refunds/returns, which is typical with places going out of business.

I do not have my reciept, thanks to Circuit City. Is the proof of purchase on the side of the box sufficient?

They can extract funds from any merchant that uses their card services. This is especially true when you tell them you were cheated and that you're not gonna pay! That last bit of info gives them extra incentive to collect from the merchant!!;)

I have to agree. Bought a pair of "demo" RC85i's, and when I got home I examined them, only to find that someone had poked their finger through the tweeter. I emailed Polk and got an almost immediate response offering to replace the damaged tweeter. Great CS!

I had a simular issue with a lap top when they were fully in business. Better Buisiness Bureau claims they DO NOT have a good track record of rectifiying customers issues. Maybe they did us all a favor going under.
