Looking for a new TV

Hello, I need your thoughts. I'm looking for a new TV. I've done a lot of research, but I'm still undecided. My budget i's about $3000 - $3200 including the wall mount. I watch mostly HD TV and Movies (blue ray), no gaming. The room has 3 windows but they are covered 95% of the time, so it's not too bright in the room. I want to replace my current 55" mitsubishi rear projection tv.

I want plasma for the picture quality, but I'm not sure about the life span of plasma vs LCD. I want a tv that last more than 5 years. We watch an average of 4-6 hrs. of tv daily.

These are the Plasma sets I've been looking at;
Pioneer 6020 - but it's out of budget
Panasonic - TH-58PZ800u very good set, can be had for $2500
Samsung - PN58-550 or 650 - Blacks not as deep as the two above.

For LCD I would go with either Smasung LN52-650 or Sony XBR6 (52")

What do you guys think? what wall mounts should I look at?

Thanks to all
HT:
Projector - JVC HD100, 100" Fixed Screen, A/V Receiver - Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH, Power Conditioner - Panamax M5300-EX, BluRay - Sony PS3, (2) ADCOM GFA 555 Bridged, Speakers - LSi 15, LSi C, LSi FX, Sub - 12" M&K VX-1250.

Living Room:
Schiit Saga, Parasound HCA-600, OPPO BDP-103D, LSi7

Since the Pioneer is out of your price range, I'd get the Panny PZ800U. I've had my Panny 8UK plasma for about 4 years now and it's still working as good as new.

I'd save a bit for the 6020. I have one and it's the best display I have ever owned and I have been through probably 6 in the past 3 years.

Samsung is the #1 selling TV for a reason. Great picture at low prices. You could buy 2 or 3 750's for what a Pioneer Elite Kuro costs.

    (2) life-span

I know it's the best, but I really don't want to go over $3000. I could afford it, but I just don't want to... I would by the 5020, but I dont want anything under 52".

Life-span is really no different between the two. With your number one priority, I'd go PLASMA for sure.

Remember, the Pioneer Kuro's have the darkest blacks of them all. I'd say the Panny is a close second.

For the mounts, I have been pretty happy with the quality from Peerless. There are a few online companies that ship for free and they end up being cheaper than Big Box stores.

They have a ton of different options and should be able to find exactly what you need there.

That is a very nice plasma, congrats.:)

I just wish my tv stand could hold the real estate of a display that large. I still think I did good, it will be holding the Pioneer Pro-111FD.:)

I've been looking at that Panasonic, I found it for $2330 shipped and no tax ;)

What about the TH-PZ850U? Are the Picture calibration upgrades worth the extra $500?

    not a big difference,

my brother in law ordered that mount. he loved it, im using my old mount that i already installed 2 years ago. But, i m strongly considering this one because it can extend if you need to pull or put wires behind tv, itd be easier to pull tv and put it back without needing assistance.

    Check out this link. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=167

There are two active threads toward the top on both of those Panny models. There is a lot of good info that site.

Not new to his rodeo. The 750 WAS my HT display. I was never satisfied with it completely even after following the AVS forum thread. I also had some pretty severe clouding issues and Best Buy replaced my original set. There is a reason the Kuro is more money. The Samsung 750 is a decent set though for the $$$$

You say the room isnt too bright, and windows are covered. How about the Panasonic 3000U front PJ and a 92-100inch screen. With the PQ of the 3000U it will surely surpass anything else mentioned and look like a huge plasma. Its a pretty bright PJ also, so some ambient light is a non issue.

I have the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-111fd, a 50", best picture quality on the market. You can get it off ebay for under $2800 now, I should have waited to get it off ebay. Even the Pioneer's lowest end plasma has deeper blacks compared to any LCD or Panasonic plasma. If you want the best, go with the Pioneer Elite Pro-111fd.

Don't get it off Ebay! THey are not an authorized dealer for Pioneer Elite products and your 2 year warranty is void.

www.valueelectronics.com is an Authorized Elite Dealer and sells it for $2799 with free white glove delivery. He is an AVSforum sponsor. Great to deal with.
