Rt1, you have got to sit down and check out my rig one day. The integration of the sub to the mains are as if they were one. Really. Regardless, tubes rule.

My electrostats are (comparatively speaking) little-bitty British things that are rather challenging to mate with a subwoofer :-) They do "get the midrange right" in spades, though.

you are forgiven, go forth on your journey.

yes, well of course the problem with E-Stats has always been the bass frequencies, there is not really a way to integrate a powered sub properly with a panel, but if we are saying the OP wants down to 20 then my panel will only play down to 30, close to the last key on the piano so this is very low, to get lower you need a bigger panel or passive sub with in-line transmission with a box.

my fascination with the panel was born of Doro-PF (maggie), continued with the di-pole Amazing Ribbon which have amazingly low bass, and now moving on to just a panel, no crossover as we know it, entirely seamless and oh those mids...........

    Interesting.

I would like such a system myself. If money was no object and I had the space (treated room in a central location of my home) I would likely investigate the following:

    Sources

Bel Canto DAC3 via USB to a Mac Mini.
    Sony XA777ES SACD Player.
    ClearAudio Master Reference Turntable

I'm not convinced that physical media will last within the next 2 years. PC media based solutions would appear to have finally cracked the high end market with many users (and now manufactures) claiming DAC + Harddrive is better then the highest end single box solution.. Even John Poulin CEO of SimAudio admitted in TAS that at the SimAudio Christmas party they were able to achieve better sound via DAC and Computer rather then Sim's top of the line CD player.

Sony used for SACD Only, great as an SACD only player.

ClearAudio. Not much into vinyl but this would the primary company of interest for me.

    Amplification

    Krell F.B.I or Gryphon Diablo

I'm a big fan of Krell. I own the little guy. I think it would also be a synergistic match with my speakers. A Gryphon Diablo would be high on my audition list as well as it would be from the same country as my speakers. I think the Gryphon would also fit into a existing room a lot easier. I would never own a system built into a dedicated room. My system would be in a central location and therefore would have to meet the requirements of everyday use in a normal listening space.

    Speakers ----

    Dynaudio Confidence C1's
    - I like Dynaudio and will likely move up the line as time goes by. These speakers however won't offer me full range but could fit into a normal sized listening room without bringing too much attention to themselves. I would then add a REL Acoustics Stentor III to fill out the bottom end.

    Cables ---
Depends on the room and synergy. All things being equal likely Harmonic Technology. Cables are tone controls and nothing more. I would really have to hear this setup in a room in order to determine the best direction for my wiring needs.

It should be noted that I had thought about using a Meridian System - DSP8000 and 808.1 MK II play back system but I wouldn't get vinyl or SACD. It would however be much more room friendly and offer room correction via DSP.
