Any ideas so that I don't piss the neighbors off ?
While she might be exagerating a little, she is telling the truth.
In so far as a normally constructed house, nothing stops low frequency. It just goes through walls with impunity. My neighbor across the street, at least 100 feet away, always turns on his car stereo as soon as he starts the car. All I hear/feel is boom, boom, boom, boom, etc. You never hear any other singing or music because high frequency sound is easily filtered, muffled, etc. by the walls. It is just boom, boom, boom. If I ever go postal it will be on some bass happy idiot.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Lsi's with psw 150s? Dude, you should really upgrade- have you considered the dsw 550? I'd be complaining about your sub-par bass too!!!

These situations are dreadful.
In Las Vegas there are noise ordinances that restrict excessive noise beyond a certain time of day. Unfortunately it doesn’t help the graveshift worker (which accounts for about 15-20% of our working population) who needs to sleep when its perfectly legal to blast your tunes.
Common courtesy is the best policy. There are intangible benefits to keeping good relations with your neighbors. Obviously no one is forced to do so, and in good ole US of A, we can be downright asses if we want.
Obviously your neighbor can hear the music. No sound test is needed. Is it shaking her walls? Probably not – just let the exaggerations ride and find a solution. Sound deadening is an alternative, as is moving the location of your setup. Is your stereo n the side of the house next to hers? Move it to the other side of the home if possible. Can’t do that? Try sound deadening materials if your willing to put up the coin to keep the peace and keep the decibles. Not willing to do that? Try:
Turning it down
Wearing headphones
Cranking it up when they aren’t home
When all else fails and you can’t find a solution, then its just going to come down to intestinal fortitude. They are going to hate you, you are going to hate them, and if either party just can’t stand it anymore, they will move. Plain and simple.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -

:(MY temporary Set up is RX V663 and running with R6800, i hardly crank it any where more than -20 max thats it, Great thanks to a lady living on top floor with 2 dogs which makes life hell for us the whole day and especially night,
and Today i get a letter from the apartment leasing office stating that there is lot of noise from my place, I listen to sometimes PF, a bit of hymns, couple of movies Chariots of fire, Broken arrow, Some classical music, some of my own language movies etc. And mostly at -30 to -50 volume, i am really P----d off, but cant do anything about it, till i get to go to my own place.:( -

I do play it rather loud but all my windows are very new and the basement is a concrete foundation.
I relieze that bass has a weird way of transmitting sounds but I think she was exaggerating a bit when she said that her house was shaking.
Ideas???
I don't guess there is any way to move your gear to the basement...dry? finished?
The concrete walls will absorb a lota rumble. -

When I was an apartment dweller in Dallas, I had a Yammie HTR-5640 and a JBL Sub/Sat system. For my 1-bedroom apartment, it was pretty potent. When I first moved in, I fell asleep in the middle of "We Were Soldiers" playing pretty much at reference level... I didn't make too many friends that night...:D -
I feel for you. My neighbor is about 25 or so feet away. The system is on my first floor of an aluminum clad house, insulation, 2 new double pane windows--always closed. Running a B.A. 12" 300 watt RMS sub, nothing compared to some Polk members but decent power. Running the system at about 60-65 volume on an Onkyo and my neighbor claims she's hearing my bass in her bedroom...which is on the other side of her house on the second floor.
The other day. My own wife came down from her home office frightened that I was tearing the house apart. For those of you that know an Onkyo has a 99 max volume. My response...'they call it a HOME THEATER' and 'That's why you have a SUB or TWO'. And I'm thinking of bringing down my second Boston sub in order to run both?

Bass does travel well, and some materials/building configurations seem to amplify it. It may be hitting a spot on the outside of her home that amplifies it on the way in.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

+1! That's how you FIX the problem. The nearest house to mine is 150'+ away, so, as long as the windows are closed they don't hear jack.
But, to the OP, I would recommend ISO pads of some sort.
Either that or.....nevermind:eek::pI refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Well I did the old sound test. I was really amazed just how loud it was outside.
I have two windows that face the neighbors house. It seems that most of the bass is coming from there. The actual voices really aren't that loud.
The wondows are very new and don't believe that they will get much better. I have caulked the best I can.
Any other ideas guys????
Your low frequency challenged friend. TK -
Where are the windows in relation to your speakers and subs?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
-
I have an idea. Close the windows.
If they're already closed, the bass might be leaking from somewhere else. -
You are doing something right if you got the neighbors complaining... Most likely the sub...
-
I feel for you too, I used to have a poor subwoofer, but then I got a Polk DSW 500.
-
Turn it up loud enough to where you can't hear your neighbor complaining!! LOL!!!!!It's all in the detail.
