Just do what cnh said. Take two small pieces of wire and jump the top and bottom terminals on each speaker for the time being and enjoy them.

I would...but I have no extra wire to speak of...I'll just keep them low for now...and pray nothing happens until I can get a quick fix...

Well...good news! I found extra speaker wire...and put it together like you guys said...

WOW! So much of a difference. I put the Dark Knight in for blu ray to test it out before. I was impressed. Just started it from the beginning scene again...my mouth dropped open. I might have even cried a little, lol.

Still no center yet...but the sound is great...I don't really need a center or surround for that matter from my old speakers. Not sure why still...but I'm hoping it will correct itself when I get the 805 in...

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP! You made speakers I was very happy with to speakers I'm thrilled with!

No need for thanks, those are very nice speakers. Wait till you hear the Onkyo powering them...you'll be amazed!

I was just trying to figure out how much better these were going to be with that 805. Is it going to be head and shoulders again?

You'll hear more bass punch, more detailed highs and better imaging. It will be noticeable. And years from now or whenever you decide to add an external amp for your front channels..say 200+watts/channel, even more!

But the 805 will be great for now!

Enjoy it. A number of people here have Onkyos so feel free to post questions about hook-ups and settings, adjustments.

I run M70s on an Onkyo 605 and borrowed an 805 a while back--what a difference the extra power made--they sounded good on the 605 and wonderful on the 805.

Got my Onkyo today. Sounds great. Took a while to figure out some of the quirks with it. I honestly can't tell a huge difference in sound or video yet. I don't have my HDMI cables yet. It's going to be a pain to set those up. My current set up doesn't allow me to have easy access to anything...

But...none the less..it's hooked up and sounds good!

Congrats Ohio. Depending on what cables you are using now, and what your sources are the HDMI could give you more PQ and SQ.
Video cables in order from lowest to highest in PQ
    1. composite typically a yellow RCA
    2. S video better than composite, but not capable of HD round connector with 4 pins
    3. component 3 separate conductors and connectors Y, Pb and Pr via RCA connectors: red, green and blue. Capable of HD arguably equal to HDMI vid. cables for PQ (IMHO they are equal), but better for long runs.
    4. HDMI combines the HD video capabilities with HD audio on one cable.

    Audio:
    1. Analog stereo red and white RCA connectors. Stereo R and L only
    2. and 3. Digital coax or SPDIF and TOSlink/optical cable can carry multi-channel audio but not the newer HD audio.
    3. HDMI capable of multi-channel with support for HD coded audio.

So if you are using composite or S-Video and analog stereo cables, then yes I would expect some improvement.

Yeah...right now I've kind of have everything mixed up. In a few weeks...everything will be HDMI...but I just spent a lot more than I was expecting. Some things will just have to wait, lol. It sucks that it has to wait...but I'm still pretty happy with the way things are turning out. I still have a lot of playing to do. By the time I got everything connected I was pretty beat. So I haven't done any calibrating yet. Still sounds pretty amazing...

Some great advice above. Bananas are easiest and the 805 is pretty easy to wire for speakers in any case because your terminals are all in a single row at the bottom--with Bananas you could pop all your ends into the 805 in no time. Don't sweat the cable upgrades and search the posts on this site so you don't end up overpaying for digital cables, especially HDMIs and Coax...although there is a lot of debate about these and I'm sure someone will nah say my post IMMEDIATELY. A digital connection is a digital connection and most reasonable even cheaper cables will do the equivalent job of the wondrous SUPER cables. I've never seen a difference...and my best friend is a filmmaker, I can play guitar by ear--so I think I should be able to HEAR the difference better than most. My 2 cents and I mean 2 cents. Don't spend hundreds on HDMIs...please!

Yeah...I really do think I'm going to end up going with Monoprice...

Just a quick question...do they sell an HDMI cable for the 360?

Sorry Ohio not familiar with the 360's but it looks like they ship with a custom 10 conductor wire harness. HDMI is a standard, so if the 360 has an HDMI connector then any HDMI cable should be compatible.

I don't believe that it does have an HDMI connector...I think it's got to be special connector...

If by 360 you're mean a newer Xbox 360, yes they do have an HDMI connector. You may have to pull out the AV adapter that it comes with because I do believe that it may be covering the HDMI out.

Good thinking cnh, not sure what got me thinking surround bar 360, I guess Polk on the brain and I have a Wii must have done it. lol :o Considering the speakers he has I was wondering why the surround bar came into the picture suddenly.

Ha...I didn't know what the 10 conductor thing was...but it makes me feel better we were talking about two different things. I'll have to bring a picture soon or later. I disconnected everything and don't see anything that looks like an HDMI cable.

I have basketball to get to now though...

But the more I listen to the speakers...the more I appreciate them...
