Turntable issue

Took a chance and dropped 20 bucks on a used denon dp29f. It's nothing fancy. I don't know much about turntables but thought I'd give it a shot...hadnt heard any since I was a kid.

Anyway...I absolutely loved the warm sound. The bad news is that the sound is faint in 1 channel. The problem changes sides when I switch phono inputs.
With the good channel unplugged I can go max volume on my avr and it barely gets to a casual listening level.

Bad plug? Cable? Cartridge? Needle? Anything thing quick and easy to try?
Thanks in advance.

I think you have covered all the usual suspects. I'd start with the cable first then the cartridge.

BTW congrats on your new found love or refound love of vinyl.

Yup. intermittent connections right at the RCA plugs are quite common in older tts in my experience.

once in a while I have an issue with one of my channels being out. usually the left one.. but I rack it up to a bad input on the pre amp... on a different integrated amp.. no problem.

but of course there are several things on a turntable that could also be the cause of that.

as mentioned, the 4 tiny color coded wire leads from the headshell to the cartridge. the cart itself. the stylus could also be very warn out. the vertical tracking force could also affect it. so many variables to weed out.. but it's all worth it.. most of those adjustments don't cost much or anything.

It could be as simple as a cartridge not tracking right. Make sure it looks straight. Check the stylus for alignment also.
SOMETIMES I'll loosen the screws a little on a cartridge enough to enable me to change the angle of the cartridge in the headshell. I'll move it a little one way or another and many times it will let it sit in the grooves properly. Also, the tracking weight may need adjusting. More or less to let the stylus sit properly. Worth a try.
    Good luck,
    Harry

Just wanted to say thanks to those that have chimed in. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. I'll definately look into these things as I get some time. Things are a bit crazy right now, but I'll definately report back.

Hey Harry...I'm down here in Greenwood. Nice hearing from a local Polkie:)
