This guy cracked me up when he stated that the 1.2TLs didn't "blow me away" and his sig shows his speakers are all CVs!! I'd guess that he's just not used to good sound from good speakers.

CV's are good for pressurizing the hell out of a room, and that's about it. The SQ just isn't there.

I don't really have any SDA experience, but to be fair, from what I've gathered they are sort of a speaker where you either like it or you don't. Some people don't really like the SDA effect, and prefer a more forward sounding speaker.

Dude you need to get your ears on some. There are plenty of Polkies in your area that have SDA's;) Anyone who has heard SDA's setup, and driven properly will enjoy them.
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I heard a pair of SDA 1C's once not to long ago...but that was only briefly, and I didn't really get to do any real intent listening on them.

There should be a RAS meeting coming up before to long though...so I'll be able to get my ears on a few different pairs, and do some really intent listening.

I have heard from numerous people that they didn't really like the SDA effect though. It's possible that they weren't being driven by proper equipment...or any one of a number of other factors though.

250 clean Carver watts into my SRS2s produced a sound so good I wanted to "smack my momma"!! Power, room & set-up are critical IMO when it comes to getting SDAs to sound "RIGHT" !! As always, your ears and mileage may vary.:D

Once I heard the true SDA effect in the sweet spot...

I sold all my gear and got 2 pair of them.

Still trying to find a nice amp to push the ones in my H/T.

I had 3 pair of Vega's over the years, and they do produce great bass.

I never heard the Vegas but the bass produced by my 1.2 TLs is hard to beat. They dig very very deep and that grooooowl oh that groooowl especially on the big string instruments is goosebump material.

I've yet to hear anything special from an SDA in regards to bass response. The SRT sure....but still not amazing.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Conradicles, I really like the sound with my Carver TFM-45 using my Denon AVR as a pre

Carver is on my list. I am about to pull the trigger on a new amp today or in the next couple of days.

The bass my SDA-2B's produce is amazing when properly placed in the room. Hard to believe those little 6.5" woofers can do that!

I can remember what my SDA SRS 1.2TL's sounded like in their pre-tweaked form. The bass was as good as any other speaker in their price range, but it was nothing special. The magic only came after extensive modifications. Proper amplification helped a lot too.

If you are a hardcore SDA cultist with extensively modified SDA's, I'd like you to think hard and answer honestly:

Would you accept a million dollars tax free cash in exchange for only listenening to absolutely stock SDA's for the rest of your life?

Give me the million dollars, and I'll get Matt Polk to build me a pair of "factory stock" SDA's using much better components. Best of both worlds then.;)

I don't see the big deal. Speakers are a personal preference. Big Polks are excellent speakers but the world has a lot of excellent speakers in it for varying tastes. Saying that they sounded very good but didn't "blow him away" isn't an unreasonable opinion, especially when you consider that CV system he listed is some pretty weighty hardware. Maybe he's more into the punch than fine critical listening.

I currently own 1.2TLs and I've never experienced a "holy crap" moment. The imaging and detail are impressive. Overall the sound strikes me as a little cold, and the bass is nothing to write home about when compared to the McIntosh ML-2Cs (2x12" per box) I had before. The Macs weren't great across the board but they were capable of being flat to 20Hz and could practically make the air feel solid in a small room.

John, have you done any upgrades to your 1.2 TLs? It makes all the difference in the world.:)
