Not saying much, but at least he's better than Kyle Petty.....what a friggin joke living off his dad's legacy. When was the last time he even won a race? He usually doesn't finish or comes in like 33rd place.

Worst race I ever tried to watch. Looked like the commercials were more important to FOX than the actual race was. We missed 2 great lead changes and 2 cautions because of the fricking commercials.

Hey NASCAR officials.......Look me straight in the eye and tell me why jr didn't get a penalty for causing that crash. Oh yeah, he's A STAR.

Well at least no one got killed today on those **** tires approved by NASCAR.

Brian Vickers is an idiot and caused the whole thing. From the looks of it you could make an argument for both cases. It did look like Jr was trying to recover from being knocked down nearly into the grass by the idiot Vickers and just got into him but I can also see where it looked like he was pissed at Vickers and trying to knock him out.

I have to think Jr knows not to wreck anybody in the front of the field like that knowing he could wreck 50% of the field but you never know.

Either way, Vickers is an idiot and after wrecking Jr and Johnson on the last lap of Talladega in '07 which took Jr out of the championship (he wouldve been in 1st) I think he deserved it.

I was also glad to see Logano wreck. Nothing personal but this dude hasnt earned a spot in the big leagues IMO. Plus the fact he looks like a 12 year old girl. Scott Speed is another one Im gonna be hoping to be in the wall all year. It only took 2 interview so see this 120 pound milky white boy acting like Snoop Dogg with all the gang signs for me to have enough.

As for the race, I was sad to see it called on rain but I was ok with Kenseth winning. He had been in the front of the pack pretty much the entire race and he earned the lead as opposed to some people pitting or wrecking. Id rather have seen my boy Tony Stewart win but Im happy with this outcome.

What Im most excited about was the quality of the racing. As opposed to last year when one guy would lead 375 of 400 laps and win, this one had a lot of different leaders and some very good racing. It looks like NASCAR has maybe fixed this stupid **** Car of Tomorrow.

Bottom line is that IM EFFING STOKED NASCAR IS BACK!! Woohoo!! Go Smoke!

I had a nice writeup and accidentally closed the browser. :(
Quick summary: JR is a great driver, and therefore could have probably avoided that accident. Sure he doesn't want to wreck the field, but it is hard to believe he was trying to avoid contact. Vickers' block was just given the situation. (IMHO)

It was nice to see Stewart with a good finish in a new car. I was hoping to see him in the top 5, and without the rain, well, who knows.

My buddy was at the last half of the race. He should have seen the whole think except NWA royally bent him over yesterday and he didn't get to florida till this afternoon.

    Random Comparison.

    Kyle petty career: (sinc 1979)
    8 wins
    52 top 5's
    173 top 10's

    Denny Hamlin career: (since 2005)
    4 wins
    32 top 5's
    59 top 10's

Granted, Hamlin is a much better driver, but compare a few others. All stats available from this page: http://www.nascar.com/drivers/list/cup/dps/

Vickers can try to blame Jr. all he wants. But the fact-of-the-matter is that Vickers was the first to make contact with that ridiculous block he tried to pull.

I seriously doubt that Jr. intentionally wrecked him. He's smarter than that, and in general a pretty clean driver.

It was kinda nice to see Waltrip finish in the top 10.

Funny how some can blame Vickers. Even the guys in the booth could see it was little Dale's fault. The question that boggles my mind is why so many folks like little Dale. I mean, the guy can barely put a sentence together.........talk about riding daddy's coattail.

I agree Vickers was at fault with a drastic block.
Vickers Blocked.......car got loose......almost regained it.....then lost it for good.
Vickers came down the track and bumped JR forcing Him below the yellow line.

I am still a huge Dale Sr. fan, yes I know he's dead. Jr. is out of line in many ways. In the 500 he was a disaster, his split from the Earnhardt family racing team (DEI) shows how immature he is. Alot of people in the sport said he grew up real quick after his father died but they were being kind or really meant he went from a baby to a young man.
Jr. could not follow in his fathers footsteps because he has never been man enough to find them. I listened to some things Jr. said this AM and he made alot of excuses for his inability, Vickers fault LOL competitor pit signs where similar looking to his pit signs again what a BABY. He just can't admit to making a mistake kind of like my son did when he was 4 yrs old.
I can't root against Jr. but he makes it hard to root for him being soooooo much different than his father.
I'll quit complaining about the kid.

What do you guys think about NASCAR in general?
I've been a fan since the late 70's and find it sad what has become of it. I have to admit I'm getting older and dislike the childish things that NASCAR promotes. How about starting the 500 around 3:30? If they started it in a timely fashion like 1:00 it would have been a great race instead of a FLOP.

Ever since NASCAR went to restrictor plates, stock car racing has been a sissy sport. There should be one rule; a team can build, and modify, any type of car they want so long as there are at least 500 units of the base body style manufactured for the general public. Put any engine in it that you can invent, and go race.

As a side-note it is time to start putting rain tires on the cars if it rains. If GP motorcycles can race in the rain then these sissies can also race in the rain.

Did you even hear Jr's. interview??? He straight up said that he had no one to blame but himself for the missed pit. I also can't blame him for leaving DEI. His step mom is nothing but a money hungry ****. I wouldn't want to have to deal with her either.

I'll admit that his father is probably a big reason I'm somewhat a fan of his. That kid has been put under ridiculous pressure, by the fans and himself, to live up to his old man's legacy. I hope someday he can put all that behind him, and just start living his life. But it seems likely that he may never escape that shadow.

Kyle has brought A LOT of excitement back to NASCAR. I don't care what his personality is like, I just see the awesome finishes in the trucks and busch races. He would've been at the front fighting for the win if it wouldn't have been for the boneheaded crash between Vickers and Jr. - I don't care who was at fault, all I know is they took out a lot of good cars and probably the winner.

IMO they need to move the Daytona to the middle or last of the season. there would be more at stake, making for a more exciting race IMO. WAY to many commercials...... why can't they do the split screen thing like the drag racers do when a commercial comes on , that way at least you can see whats going on ....

I root for Stewart because he's the closest thing to Dale's driving style that I seen. Been following him since before the Indy days where he would get the most DNF's in a season, yet win the championship because he either blew the engine or won the race. That was his style and I like it. He got a wake up call when he entered NASCAR and all of a sudden, he found competition and had to learn how to get the most out of his car without blowing the engine. He is aggressive, he has an attitude and he'll confront NASCAR in a heartbeat. Kinda sounds like Dale Sr. doesn't it?

NOBODY will be like the Intimidator, nobody. He was the best the sport had to offer and not one person has come close to doing what he did for the sport, let alone race like him. Here's one of my favorite pic's of Dale that's actually my avatar on other forums.........

    EARNHARDT-01Y4N.jpeg

When Dale Sr. passed, I wanted to root for Jr. but I knew he wasn't up to the task of what I was looking for in a racer. Stewart had a lot of what I was looking for, so I went against the grain and chose him despite what anybody else thought. He's had a good [not the best, but good] record of racing since the Legends death and until someone else comes along that drives better consistently with aggressive racing style, Stewart's my man.

It doesn't really matter to me though as I'm just not into NASCAR like I used to be. When Dale died, a part of me died as well. He was the sole reason my friends and I got together on weekends, he was the reason I traveled the country with all of my friends and family as often as we could. He was the reason we had NASCAR pools going on, sometimes three or four of them at a time.

When he died, all of that just seemed to fade away and I lost a great bit of interest in NASCAR as a whole, as did most of my friends. We were there for his funeral, we were there at DEI laying down the mementos for the Dale Earnhardt museum. We even donated our #3 banner that everyone signed whenever we went to a track, regardless of what track we were at or who came to sign it. I don't know how many signatures were on that banner but I would easily say hundreds upon hundreds of signatures from folks of all walks of life and all different favorite drivers. We saw it being folded up on the news two nights later and we haven't seen it since. One day, we will run across it in the museum.

Sorry, I got off on a rant. I miss Dale Sr. and his racing ability. The sport lost a great one that fateful day. :(

Just so you guys know, Theresa is not a "money hungry ****" and you guys have no clue whats so ever. Oh yeah, if Dale Sr. heard you say that he'd give you a back hand.
