I don't know what about that speaker screams "pretty nice"......

It's a basic black box with no design element to it. I realize speakers are boxes overall, but it looks like design was clearly left off the table and they said make it functional.....nothing wrong with that, but call it what it is.....

    • Precision metal film capacitors

    • Low DCR air core inductors
Unless those are pre-production pictures, there are two no name metal film capacitors, the rest of electrolytic, and I don't see any air core inductors.

Is Emo ever going to stop?...lol...

Those speakers aren't really to impressive looking. Can't attest to how they sound obviously, as I've never heard them. The design is pretty bland though. It's basically a black box with speakers in it...

I don't think I'll be looking to Emotiva for speakers in either case anyway...

It's good to see a new company actually making it though, especially with the economy the way it is.

Does Emotiva produce their stuff in America, or is production outsourced overseas? Anyone know?

They look like the speaker kits you get from Parts Express and the cheapie x-overs too. Of course this is just based on the photo's. Even if they sound 1/2 way decent $799 isn't a bad price point.

They aren't much to look at.

P.s. Anybody search "Yamtex or Yomtex" capacitors to see what they are or where they are made----China no doubt?

That's what I assumed...at least they're an American based company though I guess.

I really doubt it...lol...At least not the higher end Polk's, maybe the lower end ones. Time will tell though. At this point, barely anyone's even heard them.

Yep...Monster came out with a line of speakers too. They're "THX Approved" whatever the hell that's supposed to mean...lol...They're also insanely expensive IIRC.

edit-Here's a link to the Monster speakers.

They aren't quite as expensive as I remembered them being...but they're still not cheap. I wonder if they sound any good though...

Gotta agree with Face and what others have said here. The aesthetic is bland and the marginal quality of the crossover is consistent with the price. This is quite unlike Emo's other offerings. I'm hoping that since they had an audio guru (Vance Dickason) at the table to help with the design, they'll sound better than they look.

My guess is they made some speakers available for those that want to do the whole HT and have it be a one stop shop and sound better than the typical HTiB. I doubt their speaker line is a serious contender to 2ch music duty; while perhaps some of their amps and processors are.

The Monsters actually did sound quite nice when I heard them last year. Frys had the on closeout for around 300 IIRC, but only cherry and no black so I passed.

That would be my guess. It's just the convenience factor. I'm sure it will blow away most of the HTIB setups.

Like you said though...I doubt they'll be anything special for 2-channel duty.

I don't think I'll be buying any myself.

Just like any other product, with speakers you can usually gauge the performance quality by the quality of the parts. The crossover obviously plays a major role in the sound of the speaker. The Emo crossover looks like $5 worth of parts. I'm not criticizing Emo because as I said before, the parts quality is consistent with the price. After all, these speakers appear to be primarily marketed as HT speakers, so I expect them to perform well in that capacity.

Bought the ERM-6.2 monitor to use as a center channel speaker. Sweet sounding speaker. Very surprised really. BTW, have any of you actually opened up your polk speakers and had a look at the crossover? I'll say the ERM-6.2 seems MUCH better designed than the CSi30 it replaced. Hardly a crappy design (the ERM-6.2).:o BTW the inductors are air core....
