New to home theater

Hi,

I recently bought a new TV and Blu-Ray player. I would like to compliment the pair with a surround sound system. A few people recommend Bose to me but for the that money I feel I can get a much better system through POLK. I have very little experience with home theater and hoping a few of you can point me into the right direction.

My TV is mounted on the wall and would like wall speakers in the front and for the back. My den is approximately 16x16. My budget is approximately 3k for the speakers.

Thanks,

Anthony

You are a wise man... If you want to catch up on the latest Bose banter on club polk - here's the link:

My experience is mostly with RT, RTi, and RTi A speakers, which may be a little pricey for your starter system, and may be a little large for a den / family room application like you're talking about.

Some of the other folks here would probably be better equipped to tell you about polk's smaller sub/sat systems...

Anyway, good luck and welcome to club polk!

acm, when you say "wall speakers" are you talking wall mounted, or "in wall"?
I have heard some good comments on the Polk inwalls, but know nothing about them myself. As far as wall mountable the Vm series bookshelfs are and have a nice looking 5.1 VM20 system, but I have never heard them. The TSi100's are easily mountable as well, but I would prefer the 200s for fronts, if I was to go that route. I think that there are manufactures of wall mounts that should be able to handle most bookshelf speakers but that would take $$ from your budget that should stay on the speakers. Mantis, a CP regular is a custom installer, not sure if he installs Polks but I'm sure he could give you some good advice on in walls in general.

    Almost forgot, welcome to CP

    Hi ac.

What is your overall budget (speakers, avr receiver, speaker wires, interconnects), or at least your budget for speakers?

Are you planning on a subwoofer?

Op states he/she has 3k. I'd go RtiA5s or 7s, CSiA6 center, FXiA1, SVS PB12 Plus sub. If you dont have receiver, I'd pair everything up with Pioneer Elite SC05.

If that exceeds your budget, go Rti10s, CSi5, Fxi3s SVS PB12 Plus sub, this setup can be found all over the place (polk direct, ebay, agon, amazon, frys) for a great price since they are no longer made due to the new RTiA speaker replacing them. That SVS sub will definitely bring life to the party. Welcome to the forum, whatever route you go, enjoy it.

+1 on that suggestion. That's close to what I'm going to be setting up here in another month or so.
