I've been a member of a few different forums. I imagine most of you have also. I like this community, but it leaves me wondering:

Why can't we hover over thread titles to read the first few sentences like other V Bulletin forums?
I like that feature. If we had that feature here, you would have known reading this thread was a waste of your time.:)

Why can't we have fancy pants signature photos?
I've seen some pretty impressive ones over the years and it would be way better than:

fronts: PolkAudio abc123's
center: PolkAudio def456
rears: PolkAudio gh-i78's
amp: NOMOTIVA XPA666
pre: MK3 Ultimate
TV: ViewMaster Slideshow

You get the idea.

Why can't we have profile pictures?
Are you all afraid of my dashing good looks, or are you afraid everyone will have the latest LOLCats as their pic?

Don't get me wrong, I like coming here a lot. Just wondering why it's so stripped back.
Slowly emerging from the 90's
Fronts: Polk LSi15's
Center: Polk CS350ls
Pre: Sony STRDA555ES
Amp: Rotel RMB-1075
Sub: Velodyne SPL-1000
TV: 46" Sharp Aquos LCD
Dust magnet: Sony PS3

It's all been asked before. The short answer is "because we said so." (I'm not part of the 'we', that's just what they say)

    Good enough for me.

I like the simplicity of this forum. I also like its small community nature. Other forums are too overwhelming in size that you never get any sense of belonging. If we had all those gimmicks, it would only attract more idiots than we already have.

I'm new to the community, but you're right... I do like the small feel to it.

Although, I'm not sure people will suddenly flock here if we allow sig pics.

And on the flip side, I doubt anyone would leave it because we can't have thread previews.

    Huh?

Oh, that's right. Polk Audio means "diametrically opposed to signature pictures" in Latin.

    Where did that come from?

Well...for one thing, having a million sig pictures to load would slow down the server a lot...which is never a good thing. Put your pictures in the showcase, and link to it in your sig. People can still see your pictures then, and it doesn't clutter up every single post.

If I wanted to read the first few sentences of a thread...I'd click on it. It doesn't really bother me that you can't hover over it and see the first few sentences.

As others have said...I like the simplicity of this message board. There aren't a million different features to slow everything down, and gum up the works. Plus it's a forum that's owned by Polk Audio...and they said so, as others have said.

The only thing that I think would be a nice addition would be avatar pics...not having them isn't going to detract from my enjoyment of these message boards though.

This is a personal preference. It annoys the crap out of me when every time my mouse is somewhere, something pops up. Most times it's when I'm in the middle of reading the thread title! Arrrgh!!!

Ever drive down a street and there are so many billboards and flashing signs that it's hard to read street signs and store names? Well that's what I think about forums with a bunch of distracting crap.

The real "treasure" to this forum is the information. I don't want to see some animated gif over and over again as I'm reading. I have enough distractions in my life.

Hope that answers your question, Mr. fancy pants ;)

I have to say I like the simplicity of this forum as well. And there is NOTHING more annoying in the whole universe than a stupid animated GIF bouncing around while youre trying to read a post! I wouldnt mind avatars tho so long as they were JPEG's only and kept small.

And Im definitely against the first few sentences being shown. I agree 100% with Justin - it drives me crazy when youre trying to scroll or read the title and crap keeps popping up everywhere.

Thanks for the response Justin. I'm not trying to start a coup or anything.;)

To the others: I thank you for, and respect your opinions. That's why I posted - to see what you as a community thought and spark some conversation.

I don't think anyone really wants flashing animated gif's. The biggest thing for me personally, was the thread preview. It also sounds like there's some interest in avatars. But this thread isn't meant to be something people get riled up over.

Anyway, as I said a couple of times: I like the community and I doubt anyone would leave for the lack of a picture. Except for a couple of grandiose responses, it's been pretty interesting so far. But I've been guilty of being a bit on the grumpy side sometimes too.:D
