Tyler Acoustics - Decade D2
Here are some pics --
After they break in, Ill post some more thoughts
I like the way they look -- high end look to them, and fairly large in size, for sure.
A **** to move though, for sure!

Dude
Thats an understatement
When I saw the boxes I was in awe of the size - thank god the box is twice the size of the speakers though!
But yes, they are fairly large...
I think I may have found a speaker the Odyssey Stratos can not drive with ease!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I've got a pair of SE's I'll let you have,,,;)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
Just from initial impressions - I feel pretty positive about these speakers ---
The bass is so accurate, and far more revealing than the 7u could dream of in the bass department...
Have a pair of SE monos? HAVE? As in... Free?

Hey Trey,
By now you know, I've owned the Khartago Kismet/Stratos modded monos and the Odyssey Stratos Extreme monos from Klaus. There are better amps out there. In fact, IMHO, the Emotiva XPA-2 and RPA-2 both sound better than the best of Odyssey and cost way less. And, also IMHO the stuff is built way better with much more reliable customer service. If you do decide to buy some new amps, why don't you sell those Monos for a couple grand and finance what it would cost to buy a pair of XPA-2s or RPA-2s. I am willing to bet you'd be way more satisfied. -
In fact, if you buy some Emotivas, I'll pay for the shipping. That's a promise.
-
The Odyssey gear has what I would classify as "Synergy" with my speakers - both sets at this point...
And something about that Shanling that meshes to - because hearing it against Tom's Rega and my old coworkers Wadia -- it just works...
So Im not prepared to mess with that if you know what I mean...
The gear I have right now will be here a while --- 1 year + and still happy as a clam!
But thats not to say I wont keep Emotiva in mind if I get the itch later on.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I'm not sure how to take this? What makes you think Emotiva can't be better? I'm not going to get too deep here because this is Sid's thread, but I will have more to say elsewhere.
PS
Trey, those speakers are sick! Have you pulled out an SPL meter yet to determine what kind of bass extension they got? -

Emotiva over Odyssey? I'd have to hear it to believe it.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

I gotta bring over the Jolida dude. IMO, MUCH better than the Rega. More laid back sound stage which presents an improved field of depth and of course that sweet rolled tube sound. I think you might be changing your mind about the 1 year stuff after you get your ears on it in your rig.
+1 on the JolidaJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -
Tom,
You are going to like these speakers - I am sure. Just initial impressions lead me to believe to be better than the 7u in all aspects..- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Hell, yeah!!!!
George -- Glad you're continuing to embrace the inner tube in you. My tube monos ain't goin' nowhere.
SS -- I agree with you on the Odyssey/Emo discussion. I've had both of 'em and I'd choose the Emo's RPA amp over the Odyssey. I think the sonic differences are subtle, but Emo wins out on price, aesthetics, and customer service. The XPA-2 is a different animal. If I had the funds, I'd bi-amp and put 'em on the lows. The bass is ridiculous.
Trey -- I love the look of those speakers. They appear to demand respect. I don't doubt for a minute that they sound better than the 7u's, and the 7u's are awesome. George, hold onto yours or upgrade through the Tyler line.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

The Jolida is OK, but it needs to be modded. An unmodded Jolida would not beat out the Shanling, IMO.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Obviously all of this is complete first impressions listening to VERY familiar songs...
The results Im getting so far seem to be based on design differences...
The 7u had two larger midbasses doing everything (except highs obviously) and incorporates magnesium cones.
The D2 has a sealed midbass that does no lows and is not ported. Throw in the fact that midbass is a paper cone and it adds up for a lush, accurate as can be midrange ---
The bass is so monsterous, controlled and textured its almost unnatural. Definitely the best bass Ive heard and I thought the 7u had the best before this! haha...
Staging seems to be the same, but the bass seems to add a little more depth.
The biggest thing missing so far is dynamics and body -- which I believe will come with the break in... shall see --- if not, they will return to Ty.
But the high end extention seems to be on par with the 7u - little more seperation
Thanks for all the responses, glad to hear some folks like the looks of them. At first I didnt like them, the italian ebony looked fake to me -- as I sat there and looked at them, I really started to like them and now dig them pretty well - definitely a speaker to see in person as a picture does no justice, for sure.
Thanks again!
As for selling Odyssey to get Emotiva -- I will have to pass for now, Odyssey has been great for me and it is solid gear.

With all of that big bass comin' out of them, it's kinda hard to believe they lack body, even at pre-break-in.
Keep in mind that a bigger speaker usually needs more real estate to get their groove on, so your room size may be akin to putting lead boots on Fred Astaire.
I'd love to try your speakers in my room, Trey.
