Hi all,

What can I do to correct, enhance the sound out of my center chanel speaker?

I just purchanse a new receiver and when watching moviews using my BDP, I notice the conversations/sound out of my center chanel to be very boxy and muffled.

I am using a very basic setup:
BDP ->(hdmi) -> vsx-1018HK -> TGA-5200 Amp -> speakers.
Center chanel is a polk csi5.

I did change the BDP to be direct so I do get the TRUE-HD display on my reciver.

Thanks

What's the location of the center channel? Is it free standing or is it in a cabinet? If it's in a cabinet that could be contributing to that a lot.

You might also try adjusting the crossover point on it, or turning up the overall level of the center channel as well.

    Thanks for the feedback guys,

I hope it is not a fried tweeter or crossover, the sound is more open on my old receiver. vsx-812k.
Granted on the vsx-812 I was using coax for sound, the new is using hdmi for sound.

I played a bit yesterday and I can get better results just ajusting my speakers using a SPL metter and getting rid of all the EQ by deleting all memory of the results when I first run the MCACC setup.

    It is getting better...
I am woundering My I getting to the end of my spekers capabilities or is it the receiver that is just not that good enough.

Do you have the receiver in the proper mode? (i.e., 5.1 Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.)?

when playing a Blu-ray movie, the display says: Digital True-HD. when playing a regular DVD it does say: Dolby Digital.

I am hoping I can play with it more this weekend.

Sorry I don't have a picture but the back is very simple.

    2 connections in: (HDMI)
    1. from BDP
    2. from DVD
    1 connection out: (HDMI)
    1. to TV
    5. connections out :(IC)
    5. out to external AMP
    1. connection out: (IC)
    1. to SUB
mains and center channel are inside a cabinet. I do have a pic of the cab.

So you have HDMI into the Pioneer receiver then Analog I/Cs to the Amp? WIll the Pioneer pass info received in HDMI out through the analog outputs properly?

Try hooking another speaker up to the center cables & see if it's the speaker or something further upstream.

that is a good questions . I think it is time for me to read the maual some more...
I will try your suguestion for changing the speaker and see if it has any effect.

One of the main reason I choose polk and especifically these speaker set was because they are front firing speakers. the ports are in the front so it was ok to put them inside the cabinet.

    Thanks for the help.

You might also want to get the center angled so it is pointing down a little instead of over your head. Then try the MCACC again or do a manual cal again with a meter. Also is this muffled sound only on the BDB?
