I prefer the grills on but it depends on the speakers...I had a pair of axioms a few years ago when i was just getting started and they sounded better with the grills off

My set up is in my living room so I prefer the cleaner look of the grills on. I even preferred this when I was single and my whole house was a man cave.:p

Grills on as my 11 month old would go straight for them if they were off. :-O

I have the grills off on all 4 LSi15s in the HT, and off on the PSB Synchrony 1 towers in the 2 channel rig. I really do not hear any differance on the LSi15s, but they do look better off.

The PSBs on the other hand do appear to be a tiny bit clearer with the grills off than on. However, this is usually only apparent very late at night when the air is still, and I have wine in my blood.

I took mine off my RTI A9, CSI A6, and a3's this week in matter of fact.....IDK yet if I like it. I like the clean look myself, but there's something about having them naked that makes them look very intimidating :D

I found the grills ON actually sound better to me then OFF. The sound is slightly more dispersed, and not so direct. It seems to soften the highs slightly. I also find seeing the drivers in my peripheral vision a bit annoying. It causes you to focus more attention on the speakers, when you really want the source to disappear. But they look better OFF.

Lots of good discussion on this one.

I am in the camp of thinking speakers were designed for having the grills on, but sometimes like the look with them off.
I never really noticed any difference in sound of my SDA-1C's.

It's funny, but I finally like my RT1000p w/o grills more than with the grills.

I also like my Infinities without grills.

I thought I was pretty cool the other day. I wanted better lighting to cut down on glare on my reflective 50" plasma, so I got these paper floor lamps and set them flush against the wall, with my Beta 20s stand-mounted on either side. It looked like poopy and the WAF was low, so I had the genius idea to utilize the lampshade's thin paper near acoustic-transparentness to run a set of unused Primus bookshelves in stealth mode behind the lights. Looks good, sounds better. I'm going grilles off at the moment, but I might put them on later.

    RutgersFTW,

I see in the picture you have a cordless phone next to your big screen, do you get any interference from the phone, I had to move mine 3' away because it was distorting the image.

No, I've never had interference from the phone. We live in a smallish 2 bedroom apartment with 1 cable connection, so unfortunately the telephone, wireless internet, and cable box share the same power connection with the other equipment. I've had interference issues in the form of high-frequency hiss/distortion that I've had to isolate out, but I'm grateful I haven't had any more problems given how many no-nos my setup requires.
