So who here listen's to metal, anyone?

I'm personally into all kinds, death metal, black metal, grind/thrash, etc. Anything from old Metallica and Pantera to Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy and beyond..:p I like a lot of the Scandanavion metal scene as well. I tend to stray from the mainstream though. I'm not much into the pop rock radio stuff that claims to be metal, with a few exceptions of course. And i do like classic rock, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, The Doors, just to name a few.

Anyways, for those of you who listen to Metal (please don't say lincoln park, Mudvayne, Inflames, or something of that nature lol), i'm curious as to what CD's you have with good quality recordings that you use to demo your speakers?

I'm into all kinds of music including some metal but I'm more into vinyl than cd. For Christmas I bought my son (13 year old) a vinyl copy of Slipknot's Iowa. I have very little metal on vinyl but do have Metallica's Ride the Lightning, And Justice For All, and Death Magnetic on vinyl. I also have a couple Black Sabath LP's. Any of these LP's on my system completely blows away the cd versions. I heard stuff on those Metallica LP's I never knew was on the cd version. Even though I don't have any on vinyl I am a fan of Disturbed and like some Mastedon. On the fringe of metal was Canada's Out of Your Mouth which I liked. They are now disbanded and the lead singer formed the band Neurosonic which I don't think is as good.

That's cool, man i'd love to hear some Metallica on vinyl!
There's a couple songs from Mastedon that i've heard and thought were pretty good, can't name them off the top of my head though. As far as Disturbed, i don't mind their first album.

I've never heard Out of Your Mouth, i'll have to google them and see what comes up.

Nice list, some good old school stuff there. Yes Pantera was definetly a hair metal band at one time, they went through quite some changes during their career lol.

There are definetly far to many bands that i like to list, i've got at least a few hundred metal albums, it would take me a while to type them all lol.

I'm into some metal. No where near as much as I used to be though. I used to listen to nothing but screaming raging death metal/black metal all the time...to say the least, my tastes have mellowed out a bit. I very rarely listen to metal anymore.

I still have a bunch of it though.

    All of the Metallica CD's.
A bunch of Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir...some Mayhem. Six Feet Under, Decapitated, Slayer.

I probably haven't listened to any of those CD's in close to two years though now...except for Metallica from time to time.

And sorry to those who said they like them, but Disturbed=fail.

It seems like every single song they have ever written, was the same as the last song they wrote. A few weeks ago, I was in a car with one of my friends who is a Disturbed fan. He popped in what apparently was their newest CD, which I didn't know at the time. After a couple songs had played through...I said "wow, I haven't heard this CD in years". He looked at me and told me that it had just come out recently. Wow...it sounded exactly like every one of their other songs. Disturbed is very, very far from being good metal IMO.

Sepultura is awesome dude, but only Sepultura with Max Cavalera (Roots, Chaos AD, Arise, Beneath the Remains, Schizprhenia, Morbid Visions). After he left, that band took a big ****, i hate the new vocalist (well he's not new anymore but never the less he still sucks IMO).

His other band Soulfly, well they have had some pretty bad albums, but the self titled first one, and last two are pretty decent, Dark Ages and Conquer.

He also has a side project called Cavalera Conspiracy, it's basically a reunion album with him and his brother Igor Cavalera (drummer), it's pretty good.

That's because they are not Metal, they are rock.
Actually, most of the things heard on the radio are not metal, but people think it is, so they think they are metal heads lol. Not that it matters, i mean to each his own, i just find it funny when somone says they are a metal head, and proceeds to only list radio music lol.

Yeah they do have tons of different silly genre's which i tend not to concern myself with either LOL, but that's mostly just people making $hit up and it's all very subjective.:p

For me it's Death Metal, Black Metal, and then the Thrash/Grind Metal. There are definetly clear differences between these types of music. Everything else is just a mix of the above, and anything else they feel like throwing in, and people like to make up names for all of it! lol

P.S. Just my opinion of course.

Yeah....when it comes to metal those are basically the same genres I like. Not that I listen to them much at all anymore, but mainly death/black and thrash.

One of my good friends is a hardcore metal head though. He listens exclusively to black metal. He won't even give anything else the time of day. He thinks that Slayer is little pansy metal...lol

Haha, i used to be like that when i was younger, but it was Death Metal i was exclusive with instead of black metal, then i opened my mind quite a bit. :D

I always did prefer Death Metal over Black Metal though, i like the low growls more then the high pitched shrieks (but i like those too!:p). Or even the mixture of both i rather enjoy, only thing i don't really like is when a band growls or shrieks real good, but then decides to start singing clean like the backstreet boys half way through the song...that irks me and ruins my jam sesion lol (there are exceptions though, but few and far between for me).

lol...I'd have to agree with that. When I'm listening to death metal, I wanna hear the guy straight up roaring...what the hell is this singing nonsense?:p

I always was kinda picky with black metal though...the vocals annoyed me a lot of the time with all of the shrieky, choking weasel, balls in a vice singing styles...lol . I was always way more into death metal than black metal.

I agree with you on the Black Metal, i too am very picky when it comes to the shrieking nut squeezing squeals lol.

Ride The Lightning is a half speed re-mastered 33 rpm 180g version.
    Death Magnetic is 2 LP 180g 33rpm.
And Justice For All is an original 33rpm release.

Ride The Lightning sounds superb. Every detail and nuance is clear and the rapid fire drumming though prominent doesn't drown out the rest.
And Justice For All was equally detailed. There were details on the LP that I'd never noticed on cd before. Excellent recording on vinyl.
I confess I still haven't opened Death Magnetic yet as I have it on cd but I'm very soon going to do a sit down comparison.

I've only heard a few songs off of Death Magnetic...I wasn't to terribly impressed though. IMO everything Metallica made after The Black Album was pretty bad, aside from a few songs here and there. I don't even really like The Black Album that much...

Kill 'em All through And Justice For All are some of the greatest metal albums ever written IMO though.

I've been into Metal since it came out. I started with Kiss then Van Halen , Black Sabbath , Ozzy Led Zepplin then the 80's hit and the doors got blown off. Dokken , Ratt , Scorpions , White Lion , Great White , White Snake , Quite Riot , Twisted Sister , Loudness , La Guns , Iron Maiden , Metallica , Megadeath , Anthrax , just to name a few.
In the 90's I really got into Alice in Chains and they became one of my all time favorite bands.

I don't listen to metal as much today as I did back then. I still enjoy it as I play guitar and prefer to play metal when I play. I own a Jackson and a ESP guitar and I have a Krank Revolution 1 amp so I'm metal all the way.

I purchased my current speakers over B&W as I felt they supported more types of music. I didn't like Heavy metal on B&W speakers, they are not forgiving enough and a lot of metal is recorded like ****.

I keep up with the harder music today like Bullets fo my Valentine , Nickelback Seether and such. It's great music and I'm angry some of the time so it works.

    Lasareath,

As i said above "Here's a small list, but it's not even scratching the surface, there a thousands of good metal bands and would be impossible for me to list them all".
And that list is just a list of some of the Underground Metal and Black Metal for the most part.

Kill 'em All through And Justice For All are some of the greatest metal albums ever written IMO though.

Pushing 60 I don't listen to much metal, R&R, and rap much anymore, except maybe around 3AM on Saturday morning when I am in the right mind, so to speak.

However, I always like "And Justice For All", especially "One". That song reminds me of the book "Johnny Got His Gun". They must have read it, and wrote the song. What a book. It still affects me.

Well as far as demos go, I have found Pantera(Far Beyond Driven) is a particularly good one to make those who haven't heard my speakers open their eyes:D I have 11ts and it really shocks people when I tell them the speakers were made in '87:D They can't believe how good my old speakers sound with metal! I can't begin to imagine how awesome it would sound on some of the better vintage polks:eek:

    I have now. Thanks.

Don't tell Metallica their video is on YouTube, or they will be sueing them. I got tired of Metallica complainig about Napster, so I installed Napster and downloaded every Metallica song I could find. I really miss Napster. It was a great program. The other file sharing programs just seemed to be a conduit for malware and other crap.

Of course, the record companies and Metallica do have a valid point about theft.
