RMDS Receiver Upgrade

I have had the RMDS-3 since 2002 and it still sounds great. Other than the volume control on the receiver only working when it’s in the mood, everything still works great as well. My issue is that the receiver is outdated but I want to keep my speakers and sub. Is there a way I can upgrade to a new receiver and continue to use my speakers and sub? I am sure the speakers will probably work fine but the sub hooks to the receiver via the giant DB25 cable and the amp I believe for all the speakers is built into the sub. I figured the speakers will run on a new receiver without issue but I would like to keep the amplified sub as well. Is there maybe a pin adapter for just a sub input or anything that would make it serve as just an amplified sub? It would be a shame for that big beautiful sub to go to waist.
Receiver - Polk Audio RMDS-3
Front, Center, & Surrounds – Polk Audio RMDS Series
Sub - Polk Audio RMDS 10”
T.V. – Samsung 52” LCD LN52A550
Blu-Ray - 80 GB PS3

Welcome to Club Polk rtn. I had a friend with a very similar problem and sorry to say it didn't work out the way she wanted it to. Some of those companies do that to their HTIB setups so you can't save and mix and match parts to build another one. They figure if the receiver isn't good enough for you then neither is their sub, lol. I had an Onkyo HTIB and my sub just hooked up to the receiver via a sub cable so I got lucky there. More than likely there isn't an adapter for the sub to receiver connection, and you are just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a new sub too. Maybe someone has better news for you, but I'd be surprised. Good luck.

Yep...they usually produce those HTIB setups to be as unversatile as possible. They don't want you to expand on them...they just want you to step up to the next higher HTIB.

Looks like you might have to upgrading your sub as well.

I have to say I expected more from Polk Audio though. This sub must weigh close to 100lbs and has an amazing level of output. The Polk Audio RMDS was a very expensive HTIB setup and Polk didn’t skimp on quality speakers and sub. It’s actually the only HTIB, at least that I can remember that Polk Audio ever put out. Does anyone know if perhaps I could swap out the whole input control on the sub with one from another stand alone amplified Polk Audio Sub that may have a normal input?
