I don't think shipping would be that bad. If they were all that was going, weight would be low and they could be stack in a way to minimize the size of the box.

But making a kit would be the equivalent to buying wood for you, and your nails and whatever else and just counting it out just to sell you a box of wood and nails and such. There is no where near enough to demand to do that. There is enough demand for me and my dad to go through the effort of building some templates to slam one together and finish it easily and sell it. Shipping it assembled is going to cost a little extra than to ship an unassembled and smaller package but hey, that honestly comes with the territory.

These would be hand built and custom made and when you are looking at furniture like that, you are going to pay a bit of a premium over a kit or mass produced.

im ur new online buddy, tell ur dad give me 30% off becuz im friends of yours! :D

How much would he charge me for 2 end tables that im drooling over

Man i really like this table!

I'm guessing about 600-650 for two tables. I don't know how much lower he could go on the price. I know he was cutting it pretty tight already. Wood, especially fancy hardwoods, ain't cheap.

I will talk to him and see what he wants to do and I will pass along his email address. But I'm gonna ask that if you are serious, you are more than welcome to discuss things. But if the prices are scaring you off already then please, don't get him all spun up to do something and bail. He's had a few people with pie in the sky ideas yet holes in their pockets cry poor-mouth as soon as they see the costs for materials alone. He does not build junk and these items are heirloom quality. You will have them for a while provided you don't destroy it.

OK, I spoke with my dad and he said he can build the stands but he needs to see diagrams with measurements to get an idea on cost. I have a diagram with GOOD, READABLE measurements and I will be working with him tonight or tomorrow to get a template set together.

Hopefully, I will have some estimates for you all with wood varieties similar to what is on the Monitor series of speakers.

One thing he did say was that if you wanted piano black, it might be a bit more expensive because the acrylic is more costly than a wood stain and a polyurethane.

Also, CaligulaPolk, He can't do much better than $650 for a pair of the end tables you are interested in. If you are still interested, PM me and I will give you his contact info so you can work out what you want. I know that seems high but, I went shopping ffor mahogany pieces of a similar variety a few years ago. I was seeing stuff similar to that price but it was a veneer with MDF cores and such and it was cost $350 each. The solid stuff was over $450 each. My dad duplicated two night stands that were $350 each for about $245 in wood. I got a bigger break because he's my father. But for a solid mahogany, shaker style table, his prices are better than you will find in a store and his craftsmanship is much better than you will find in any store. Most people who see the night stands my dad built me are stunned when I tell them that they are two of a kind, hand built. My dad had to sign them to get people to stop telling me I was a liar and demanding to know what store I bought them from.

I found a diagram in a previous thread posted by spastcipitbull...who is now Pauly for some reason...anyway, yeah, it was good. My dad said they were no problem to make. He's gonna go price different hardwoods tomorrow.

MDF, for those interested, is running about $35 a 4x8 sheet. Veneer plywood is about 2/3rds more than that for an MDF core. A wood core veneer is around $70 for a 4x8 sheet right now.

I'm going to do some math on the material and get a square footage number so that when my dad gives me the cost per length or foot, I can get a fairly accurate number.

I will post up here and then we'll start talkin' about who wants what.

Keep in mind that if you want, say, a cherry finish but real Cherry is too much, a cheaper alternative can be stained to match the color but you might not get the same grain pattern. Might save you some cash.

Also, if someone could be a pal and get me some color shots of the various woods that the Monitor series came in or at least tell me what the finishes were, that'd be awesome.

This is a Monitor 10 stand that my dad built as an example. This is made with birch veneer plywood, wood core and painted black with gloss black Krylon. My dad slammed this one together to get and idea of what was involved and work out the jigs he needed to cut the angles. It did not take him long and the finishing took the longest due to dry times. This was assembled for the equivalent of about $150 a pair.

    This is the top view:

    This is the bottom:
    bottom2.JPG

    This is a front view:
    front2.JPG

    This is a back view:
    back2.JPG

    This is a side view:
    side2.JPG

These were built to the specifications in the PDF documents found on this page: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24335

Bases are screwed together and hollow in the stand so that shot or sand or other deadening material can be filled. Screw heads are counter sunk below the surface so that your speakers won't get marred. Carpet spikes can easily be installed so if you want them, say so. The price added will be dependent upon what spikes you want to use and how much of a pain in the rear they are to install.

These are some prices to get stands built. These prices are assembled and finished. They do not include shipping or the added hardware like floor spikes and such because people have their own preferences and I am more than happy to install whatever you want but I'm not going to be giving away floor spikes and such. They are expensive. People also do not live up the street from me and insured shipping on an odd sized box can get costly and they must be shipped insured to protect your interest and ours.

    Gloss black, MDF -- $100 a pair
Lacquered black (aka Piano Black), MDF -- $130 a pair
Gloss black, birch veneer plywood, wood core -- $150 a pair
Lacquered black, birch veneer plywood, wood core -- $185 a pair
Oak with whatever stain, polyurethaned -- $200 a pair
Poplar with whatever stain, polyurethaned -- $250 a pair
Maple with whatever stain, polyurethaned -- $300 a pair
Mahogany with whatever stain, polyurethaned -- $400+ a pair

Now, materials are expensive. Current prices are $3.50 a foot for oak and $9.50 a foot for mahogany. Poplar, maple and other more common hardwoods are in between those two. If you want chestnut, walnut or other exotic woods, you are talking over $550 a pair easily.

If you don't believe me on the prices, please feel free to research yourself or talk to a guy like F1nut who refinishes furniture for living. He can probably give you a good idea of cost also.

Given the caliber of work that my father can do, I think these prices are extremely reasonable. Add to that, for the examples of original stands that I've seen, these are a far sight better and will last much, much longer.

If you are interested, please either post here in this thread or contact me at: st958z49@gmail.com and we will work something out.
