I fried my Peerless 810665 tweets. Should I hang myself?

Actually there are a lot of guys here with much more experience with different amps, but the Adcom is tried and true. The EMO looks great on paper, but it hasn't been around a long time. I have heard a few EMO amps, and I was pleasently surprised, but the price of that amp is too high for the same/better SQ in a used Adcom, or Parasound HCA-xxxx.
    This place is normally good.

Nothing is jumping out at me right now. If you can find one local even better. Check craigs list too. Save the extra money from the amp, get some tweeters, and do the cap/resitor upgrade;)

See that is what I like to hear. I bought the Monitor 10s because they are tried and true. Sure there are lots of good reviews about how great the 60's and 70's are. But when I kept hearing how many people had kept the 10s for decades and still loved them, I had to get a pair. It's all about the music for me. Can you suggest an Adcom or other brand that has a 250-300wpc amp so I can both have the best of both worlds? (the 10's have a 250rms rating). i know it might sound excessive or whatnot, but I am willing to wait until I get the right stuff.

    Thanks

p.s. I'm sure the 60's and 70's are good monitors.

I'm gonna keep looking at Adcoms, people have been saying good things.
    thanks

100 watts of Adcom, or Parrasound is more than enough. These amps are very solid. Think of it as a car stereo. If you have a head unit that says its 50x4, and you get a good HQ amp like the old ADS amps that are 30x4. The ADS smokes the head unit in every which way. You would need a monster Adcom or Parrasound to get 250wrms at 8 ohms. This would only increase the SPL by about 4db. You would not be able to handle the 10's with more than 100 watts of real amplifacation. The 10's are something like 89db at one watt. 90db constant is the standard that causes hearing loss. You can reach about 110db with one of the amps I listed. That is loud. Also any more power you are abusing the speakers. They would not last long.

There's no reason, whatsoever, to replace your tweeters if they aren't broken. The Peerless tweeter is a very good tweeter and sounds great to the majority of ears. Plus if you were to replace them with RDOs you'd have to modify the mounting hole to fit the new tweeter, iirc.

Now for crossover upgrades, that's different. You could probably make some SQ improvements in that area. Just remember, they're great speakers, but not worth putting hundreds of dollars into them.

    Enjoy the tunes.

PS, I recommend Parasound. IMO, Adcoms can be a bit grainy, but are normally reliable. Look for a clean used HCA series Parasound amp, but make sure it's from a reputable seller.

+1000 in regards to keeping the Peerless tweeters. I'm driving my 10A's with a Kenwood KR 9600. The watt meters are peaking at around 60 watts and it's plenty loud and the SQ is excellent. Like Ben said, get a parasound or adcom and save your money for the cap upgrades.
