Well I guess I'll just post in here. Yesterday I recieved my new RTIA5s (cherry) and was very excited, given all the stuff I have been ready about polk audio speakers. I removed them from the box and was greatful that they arrived with no damage. My first impression, was holy crap these speaker look great. I then proceeded to hook them to my RXV861 Yamaha Reciever. I will say up front that I am by no means an audio expert but hearing these speakers for the first time, without taking the time to set the reciever up properly was in a word "fantastic". I bought the pair for $500.00 and it feels like I stole them. I played a David Gilmour Concert from last year from my computer(on an analog sound cable) and the sound was beautiful. I understand that they should have some burn in time,or whatever you call it but they are impressive.
Anyway it is probably no news to you guys in here, but I'm very glad I bought these speakers. I went to a local audio store and listened to a set of Paradigm monitors, which sounded fine but was not impressed with the look and finish of them. After unpacking these RTI's I feel that taking a gamble and buying them with never listening to them in a store was the absolute right choice. I will be adding more to this sytem later, but for now I'm a happy camper.

Welcome to the trenches. Yeah, the Rtis look nice with that wood veneer. I have that on my old JBLs, real walnut and HDF rather than MDF construction. Also have a set of M Series I like a lot. The M70s have specs similar to the RTI-5s but not quite as pretty and the Rtis tweeter is a bit different--better heatsink, more power, etc.

One thing to remember is that that Yamaha can only power 2 fronts like the Rti-s at 4 ohms, any other speakers you add can only receive 6 ohm settings from the 861. The thing that is good about that unit is more its stereo power than home theater. The protection circuitry in it does not allow anywhere near the RMS wattage for either 5.1 or 7.1. Wonder why Yamaha does that? Nonetheless those 5's will sound even better after you break them in after 100 hours of use of so?

    Enjoy

cnh-The RTi A5's, along with all the other RTi series speakers have an 8 ohm impedance...not 4 ohm. So he should have no worries on powering them with the Yammy.

Good to hear you're enjoying them, those RTi A5's are some damn fine speakers.

What can I say? I'm a post ****...lol...

In the short time I've been around this forum though, it's already started to feel like a second family of sorts. This has got to be the greatest bunch of people on the internet. I've been on quite a few forums before, and never have I seen so many great people, that are so willing to help out the newbs that are less knowledgeable than them. I've accumulated enough knowledge in my time here to make my head spin...lol

You should probably make another thread and ask this same question there. It would get a lot more response.
