alpine cda-9884
alpine pdx 1.1000
alpine type-x 10"
monster cable RCAs connected + checked
power and ground to amp working
amp powers up and seems fine
subwoofer set to "on" on head unit
subwoofer level @ 5
gain up a little on amp
HPF @ 80Hz
tested sub with AA battery wiring to terminals, works fine
wondering how there could possibly be no sound...makes no sense to me
rest of speakers in car work fine, amp appears to be working fine
PLEASE HELP!!

Check the crossover on the amp.
Shouldn't be HPF! It should be LPF(low pass filter).
You've told the headunit to cutoff anything higher than 80 Hz and then the amp to cutoff anything below 80 Hz. Result, a tiny bit of sound at 80 Hz. -
on the amp it is LPF, set around 140Hz right now
HPF was on the head unit -- for sound going to the speakers
now HPF is totally off to eliminate variables
subsonic filter on amp @ 15Hz
still no sound -
grap a 3.5mm to rca wire and an ipod and jack it right into the amp. if you get sound then you know it is the head unit or rca's run between the two. if it dosen't work...then you can be sure the amp is most likely the problem.
