We got a warning on this one at work, and my IT guy is usually not a "send out warnings" type of guy. Definitely one to be aware of.

But seriously, patch your systems people. Windows Update is pretty damned easy to use.

I got something like this a few weeks ago. And then I noticed that all of my friends who borrowed my flash drive got it too.

We realized that it spreads by flash drive, which means that I got it from someone else. I think it was a PDF document or so.

That's what you get when you have 6 PC's, 5 of which other people use...

I also do lend out my laptop to friends for presentations, etc.

Yes they still have security patches for XP. If you're up to date to now supposedly you're safe.

I was up to date when I had the virus but there wasn't a patch for it yet.

I got a few new patches in January though.

Not if you have a HP Pavilion desktop PC...

It's well known that some Pavilion machines have incompatibilities with MS patches, I even get letters from HP telling me not to install certain patches until you install the HP fix first.

    BIG QUESTION!

Did anyone check this out to see if it's a ligit warning?
I don't know my way around snops.com (I think that's what it is)
Many times things like this are spread around Yahoo and various places and they are bogus.

    Just say'in

This may or may not be related, but Adobe released a patch for Reader 8.0 fixing a security vulnerability. It may have something to do with that PDF file I opened.

The way the articles talk about it makes it sound like an actual virus.

Atleast, it hasn't caused too much trouble yet, other then shitting up people's comps.

Partially, he thought Apple machines don't get viruses but apparently you have to buy antivirus software for the Mac now...

They usually do not get caught, and they're often not from this country so even if they did what could we do?

I believe it spreads via social networking sites, such as MySpace. You are asked to perform some kind of update and then your computer is infected.

You can now get antivirus software for the Mac, such as here:
    http://www.symantec.com/norton/macintosh/antivirus

I didn't even know they sold virus protection for the Mac!

I wouldn't either. I posted that link just to show that virus protection exists for the Mac now - something I thought never existed before.

Oh gotcha. I've known about virus protection for Macs. I think it's been around for a while. Whether it's actually good for protecting you I'm not too sure about.
