Went to a family members house this morning to listen to some tunes. This person considers himself a music connoisseurs of sorts, focusing mainly on Rock, Blues, and Jazz. I suggested listening to Jonny Lang and he said he didn't have any! I was amazed!

What is the one album (or CD) that you couldn't fathom having a music collection without. To keep it easy to follow, let's use this format:

Artist - Album - Genre

For me, it would be:

Jonny Lang - Lie to Me - Contemporary Blues

Whatcha got?!?!

Tried to edit the OP, but time had expired. Let include and type of recorded music. LP's, tapes (I guess :p), CD's, downloads, etc.

I sat here and pondered for an eternity, but I couldn't decide between two. So....

    The Clash - London Calling
    The Pixies - Doolittle

    The End.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Just one?! That's tough to separate my babies. :D

Diana Krall - The Look of Love - Contemporary Jazz(?) - SACD

Although, looking at my collection, I have always owned Pet Shop Boys, "Please" and the Beatles, "Love Songs" (LP) and I'd never part with "The Essential Dave Brubeck".

    one album? oy.

Fifty I could do, maybe even 10. Dunno about 1.

Probably the one album I'd pick is Patty Larkin's a gogo.
At the very least: no-one should have no Patty Larkin albums.

    Can I list some runners-ups? :-)

    Who's Next
    Abbey Road
    Waiting for Columbus
    American Beauty
Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
    Aja
Beehtoven Symphonies I - IX - Von Karajan (DG) (I am thinking of the early '60s cycle; he re-recorded the cycle in the early 70s on DG too, I think)

One album...wow...that's tough. I'm gonna name three, because I can't decide between them, and I wouldn't be able to live without any one of them.

    Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon-Hybrid SACD-Rock
    The Grateful Dead-American Beauty-HDCD-Rock
The Beatles-Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band-CD-Rock

These are just my current favorites though. Ask me the same question 3 months from now and you'd probably get a different list. DSOTM would still be number one though!:D

I also find it hard to do one, but one of several genres is much easier.

Spies - The Music Of Espionage - Contemporary Jazz
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood - Blues/Rock
The Cult - Sonic Temple - Hard Rock/Metal
Alan Jackson - A Lot About Livin' (And a Little 'Bout Love) - Country
    Mozart - Symphonies 40 & 41(Telarc Release) - Classical
