clipping

I noticed a clipping sound on high frequencies four times throughout a blu ray movie last night. This is just happening in one bookshelf rear speaker polk tsi series. I'm guessing it might be the speaker wire, I have two pieces braided & taped together with old 14 guage monster wire. All of the other speakers have new single piece monster wire. Just freaked me out when I heard it didn't know if it damaged the speaker.

    If your asking for help...
Try swapping the speaker wire to a different channel at the amp/receiver. (such as swap the rear surround left with right.) This will help to determine if the problem is the wire/speaker or something in the receiver/amp.

If its the speaker side, try swapping speakers.
If its the cable-try re-splicing it.

You should get a good idea on at least the source of the issue. Then figure out the exact cause from there.

Is it possible it was just the movie?

Anything is possible. If it happens at the same spots in the same movie-you will be able to troubleshoot it as I suggested. If the 'clipping' or distortion you are hearing follows the changes then you'll know if its your speakers or the amp side. If it ends up on the amps side then you can troubleshoot if you have an amp issue or a BR player issue or an issue with the movie itself. but for now though its a process of elimination to figure it out.

Unless of course somebody else out there can comment on any known issues that match what you are experiencing.
What equipkment are you using and what movie were you watching?

Everything is brand new and broken in, yamaha receiver 663, polk tower speakers, polk bookshelf rear, & polk sub. The movie was playing on a ps3. The only time I have heard the distortion was during a football game and they said there was a bad audio feed, but both speakers had a little distortion.
