Need a recommendation for a receiver to drive a pair of LSi15.

I just "won" a pair of LSi15 on ebay from Polk. I currently have a dodgey 13 year old top of line Pioneer receiver which I can now justify replacing.

I mostly will use my system to listen to music with ocassional playing of TV and movies. My price range cap is $1000 USD.

Any help will be apreciated!

Thanks

Siddhartha

Those are 4 ohm speakers...most AVR's aren't really capable of driving 4 ohm loads, you'd probably be better off looking into a seperate pre/power amp combo. I'm sure you could manage to put something decent together for 1000 bucks.

Are you looking to set up a home theater system with them, or is it going to be dedicated two channel?

    You need an amp.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I am thinking about first getting an Onkyo TX SR 876 receiver and later adding an amp to drive the 4 ohm speakers. I live in an apartment and care about my neighbors so I think the Onkyo will suffice in the short term since I will not be playing my system too loudly.
I am open to suggestions about other options.

    Thanks

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    All,
Thank you for the information. A NAD amp looks like a good solution to my questions.

    Thanks again

All current Denon, Marantz, and Harman Kardon receivers are capable of 4 ohm loads... I email all three companies a while back when looking for a receiver to power my MB Quart QLC-304's... I got a response back from their tech support that evening... Hope that helps.

They're "capable" of it, that's the keyword. They aren't recommended to be used with 4 ohm loads though really. It puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the power section...and can ultimately lead to the amps shutdown circuit kicking in.

My amp was down for a while and I ran my 15's with my Marantz SR8001 which is a pretty stout AVR. It did an okay job if I hadn't been used to using my Sunfire amp. Make sure any AVR you get has pre-outs though, because it will be about 15 minutes before you want an amp. I would also be sure to get one that decodes the new HD audio codecs.

I personally love Marantz equipment and like the middle child SR6003. The Onkyo is also nice although I am kind of Marantz fan boy- I love the sexy look along with the terrific power. Shop around you may be able to find better prices on these guys. If you go with Onkyo I believe you can join club Onkyo using the link and save ten percent- btw I think that link is to a refurbished unit on the Onkyo.

If you don't want to go with an amp, Go with something like this. The Lsi's really shine with high amp power. Do a search on here. There is more to it then watts per channel.

Right now, my short term plan is to get a receiver which has the latest HT\audio capabilities and can drive a 4 ohm speaker system. Long term, in six months, I will get a power amp and use the receiver as a pre-amp.

I am looking into getting separates but everything I have seen so far is out of my price range.

The problem in there are not many receivers out that will really handle load.
You could go for a receiver w/ pre-outs and add an amp but I would keep the volume to low levels until you add the amp.
