Best subwoofer for system

I am looking for a new (or used) subwoofer for my home theater. Here is my current setup:

Front: LS90's
Center: CS350-LS
Rear: Boston Acoustics CR6
Current Sub: PSW100
Pre-Amp: Outlaw 970
Front Amp: Carver TFM-25
Surround Amp: Outlaw 7125

My new den/theater room is a large open two story room. I do not feel that the current sub is up to the task. This is confirmed by the fact that when I tried calibrating the system with my db meter, I have to boost the sub all the way to even try to get to the level of the rest of the system.

I would like to get a sub (vintage is fine) that will better match the LS90's. Which one(s) should I look at? BTW, which sub was the top of the line when the LS90's were current? Would that be a good match?

Thanks for your input.

Thanks

Any sub will match any speaker as long as you calibrate it to the rest of the system. You have a lot of space to fill, so one sub might not be enough for you. Try giving us dimensions of what your room is like so we can better try and help you. If you are curious though I would go with SVS sub's or Velodyne.
    58" Samsung Plasma (on wall)(calibrated)
    LSi15's front (modded xo's)
    LSic center
    LSiFX's sides
    LSi7's rears
Sunfire Sig. 600 amp for 15's
    Sunfire Sig. Cinema for C,S&R
    Sony ES 3000 pre/pro
SVS 2039 PC Plus sub 12.3 (16hz tune)
    PS3
    Wii
    Signal and Audioquest ic's
    12 awg monster speaker-cable (bi-wired)
    Belkin PF60 power conditioner
    Monster power conditioner for sub

For a budget, and if you can, you might want to go DIY. Add a nice amp from somewhere like PE and you could fill the whole room with lots of output. But it has lots of drawbacks if it is too much to handle or you mess up. For a complete solution, every Paradigm I've used has been flawless and blended well.
Someone once told me that if I didn't turn my music down I'd be deaf by the time I was 30. Well I'll be 30 soon and I can still hear just fine.

I recently bought a Cervin Vega CLS-12S. It was a shot in the dark since I had only read reviews but the thing kicks! I love it, for music it delivers clean and powerful bass that almost makes my buddies JL W3s in his car sound muddy. Movies now have a great low end compared to what it was like with my stock pioneer sub (which actually did some work). Not to mention the thing looks awesome too (it's quite large though, take that into account based on space.) If I could do it over a again I'd probably go with the 15" though. Just throwing this out there, good luck!

    PS-If you have unlimited funds....JL Gothams...only $12,000 per sub!

Having the svs 2039+ I would say i am quite happy. And having your large size room two subs may work very nicely.
    Oppo bdp 93 Blue Ray
    Integra DTR-80-2
    Polk LSi9s (mains)
    Polk LSiC (center)
    Polk LSiFXs (surrounds)
    Sub SVS 20-39+
    Samsung 60" Led 3-d
    Blue Jean Cables

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I can't PM yet.

To the OP, ctpj, did you ever get rid of that PSW100 sub? I'm in need of parts, or the whole sub.

    If available let me know.

    Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome TNTsTunes... Glad to see the people with more than a handfull of posts are much more welcoming. :)

I realize bringing up old threads is worthy of a newb bashing. I'm not new to teh internetz. However, a visitor message isn't always sufficient to try contacting somebody when a PM isn't an option, and bringing up an old thread can sometimes refresh information that might be useful to somebody else.

Besides, It's not like I brought up all the threads from 2006 I found about the PSW100.

sTiLlLeArNiNg, perhaps you have experience in obtaining parts from 10+ year old products? If I can't find a used one it would be nice to get some from Polk, provided the price isn't ridiculous as new PSW110's can be had on Ebay for $125.

But with a freq response down to 22hz I'd like to keep this one alive.

    Sub Fixed!!

I bought a new PSW110 (Best Buy, on sale, impulse buy) and dis-liked it so much compared to the PSW100 I pulled it apart, found and fixed a six or seven broken/suspect solder joints and it works better than ever!

    Thanks for the input everybody!!
