On hot recordings, it absolutely DID produce distortion. This wasn't isn't the good hendrix guitar amp distortion, this was bad distortion.
Don't mod it either. I did almost every mod out there on the thing and to me it sounded better unmodded. Distortion was there before and after mods unfortunately.
I would have gone with the Audio-GD NFB 3 if I were you. Instead of going non-oversampling, I say find a really good DAC with out digititus.
Are you talking about the Prometheus DAC or the Valab?.....which produced distortion?...thanks,peter -

The Valab. There was actually a response from Valab about the issue. They had a fix for it but it completely killed the sound (I tried it). Their were a few people who had earlier releases that did not have the issue. Valab said they'd keep selling the DAC with the issue IIRC. -

Thanks....I was asking because I'm looking at their Chameleon ultra-low jitter Dac...peter -

I know a few people with the Chameleon. John Darko of digitalaudioreview.net is very fond of the Chameleon. Still, I'd try one of the Audio-GD units around that price range.

I don;t think I've ever read a negative review from Johnny Darko, so take that FWIW.

I wouldn't say he writes negative reviews either. But he most definitely writes in a way that is very clear as to which is the better product. He's very clear about what sonic characteristics are present in a piece of gear so that the reader can use their head and decide if it's right for them. He posts his thoughts on pros and cons as well. Of the two products he has reviewed that I've owned personally, he was spot on. -

How are you liking the Yaqin CD-3? I owned that one for a year before I sold it. It didn't give me what I was looking for but I'm guessing it was a synergy thing. -

I luv it....one of my best purchases at $168 shipped....came with the chinese 6n8p's,which are ok,but the 6922's are a another level...great for jazz vocals, which is my favs......ck out Grant Fidelity, they have their version of the cd3 and they are US located with a US warranty......I even go analog out from the yaqin to my Zhalou headphone amp.....very powerfull with a discreet headphone amp section....funny thing happened a month ago....fuse blew on the cd3.I switched to the spare fuse, which came with it.....that blew, also.I then got 10 fuses from California on ebay.......no further problem......I wonder if the chinese fuses suck and the ebay ones are made elsewhere?
