I just purchased some 18 awg solid silver wire from homegrown audio and will be making some speaker cables out of it. Has anybody ever done this?

If you go enough wire wth not. Depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. Do a search on DIY wires on here, you will be up all night reading. Good luck. Let up know how they turn out.

With the 18ga you are not going to want to biwire. You will want to star quad it for the equivalent of a single 15ga wire. That silver wire is not cheap. It takes almost 40 feet to make a pair of 3 foot IC's.

Here is my finished cable next to my audioquest biwire (made from Audiotruth forest+ [green cable] and Audioquest crystal [blue cable]). After listening to both I can't tell the difference. This tells me that:
1)I need to listen to more music so I can learn to hear subtle differences
2)My Yamaha RX-V2700 is somehow masking the difference...or is not good enough to listen to high quality music
3)Maybe you don't need very thick cables if they are made of silver
4)Maybe my audioquest cable is not very good

To my ears the sound reproduction was very good so maybe i'll need somebody else's opinion with my solid silver speaker cable.

The insulation on the Silver is much thinner. The ga of the wire should be near the same. Let the Silver burn in for a while. It takes longer than copper. I run Silver on my highs, and AQ on My lows.
