Just discovered some of the inputs on the BAT are busted!!!! Motha-!@#ka . . . I am serious! Guess which ones?????? The effing balanced inputs!!!!!! I was so pissed, but now I am good.

Called up Chase Visa, they reversed the charge and told me to send the preamp back to the sender. How great is that? It was that simple!

No wonder dishonest people find it so easy to scam people.

Guess my new pre is a Cary SLP-03 until I find something better.

I suppose I should also say I called the seller and he hung up on me . . . that's about what made me see red. But, now he's the one with his finger up his butt.

I don't know your pre but is there a switch to pick between unbalanced and balanced you might have overlooked???
I'm sure thats not the case but hey, we all trip sometimes.

Sorry to hear about this anyway. I hate nothing more then broken gear.

So is there a switch to pick between balanced in or unbalanced in??? I can't find a pic of the back end of this pre.

I'm just messing with you Mike. I've been in your shoes before in regards to that type of situation....it's lame.

No, no switch. All I know is that the balanced input doesn't work on the right channel but the left channel does work. The tube is not bad because I swapped both sides and the right remains busted. Ben's cables are not bad because they work on my Cary SLP-03 as does the rest of my system.

Yeah I tested them before I sent them. Color coded wires too. I wish you were closer...

Hey Ben, hope you know I didn't mean to single out your cables. I love these things. I just mentioned them because they were the most recent variable.

No problem. I have only had two failures. One the guy told me he broke one trying to remove a locked locking RCA. Another a wire broke, but that was before the new strain relief system. EVERYTHING needs to be looked;) When I said if you lived closer I was referring to taking a look at the pre. I have helped out some other Polkies with electronics too:)

Well, it worked out. In the end I have a pretty decent pre that can be upgraded to something better later. For now, I am $2K richer, which will really help with whatever I decide to do as my source.

Well I am glad you have another balanced pre. Especially after I redid your cables to XLR's!

I would like to take bets on that. I guarantee I will not sell my new amps, preamp, subwoofer or speakers for years . . .

That being said, my DacMagic will be replaced once the manufacturers put all their new products on the market and I can take a proper survey.

I will say however that the DacMagic is the best DAC $400 can buy, period. In fact, in terms of connectivity, it can't be beat under $1K.

On a whim, I just bought new tubes for the preamp to see if that would fix the problem. It did despite the fact that the original ones were all lighting up.

Yeah, I used to think they were like light bulbs. If they lit up, then all was well. Apparently this is not the case.

Sounds good. Glad it's working out. Does it use multiple tubes? If so, might want to try replacing all of them incase some are weak.
