Hey, Well considering setting up a second TV room and looking at subs. I already have a Nice set up with a Velodyne DD15. Love it. Never heard an SVS sub but they come highly reccomended. I am looking at the SVS PB13 Ultra. Since I don't see any Dual subs on SVS web site. If you could pick either one the Velodyne DD15 (or possible DD12) or the SVS PB13 Ultra. Wich would you buy and why.

I think you pretty much answered your own question. Since you already "Love" the DD15...why in the world would you even consider the SVS??? I'd stay with a Velo all day long over an SVS. For both HT & 2 channel listening the Velo is tops. I know, I already traveled the SVS road & as you can see in my sig...my dual SPL-1200R's are rocking my listening world!!!

agree with pearsall001. Although I think you should trade-in your 15 with a dual 18...

    forgot this marker: :);)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Here's the one you really want & need...you might have to remortgage the house though!! :Dhttp://www.velodyne.com/products/product.aspx?ID=3&sid=197x576u

Nothing at all wrong with SVS subs...I just feel that Velo makes a better product, especially when it comes to seemless integration for 2 channel listening. If you can swing another DD 15 that's the way to go. But adding a DD 12 wouldn't be too shabby either.

The DD15 is extremely hard to beat. Balanced in and totally musical. They hit low and heard yet are delicate and quick enough for even the most demanding music.

I don't like SVS products at all. I have Installed serveral of them and left disappointed every-time. It's a shame 2 as I was totally juiced up to get one going only to be let down.

If going with DD series again si out of reach , the SPL line is very very nice. You will be happy with them.

So stick with Velodyne, they do bass right.

Thanks mantis, I will most definately stay with VELODYNE. They do make AWSOME subs and are hard to beat for sound and quality. The SVS hype was getting to me and got interested. But I think thier is NO BETTER sub made then VELODYNE. I will probally go with a DD12., I LOVE my DD15 it is a KILLER sub.

Well all you Velo guys are certainly entitled to you opinion and there's some truth that the sealed cabinet with decent power of the SPL and DD series sounds great. For music, it's a subjective decision, both the Velo's and SVS Ultras sound great. For HT there's no competition. The PB13 or PC13 are on another level. I owned a 20-39+ and compared it side by side with a DD15 for a month. I just couldn't justify the additional bucks. I loved the DD15s EQ, it's tightness for music and power, but the SVS held it's own, not a match for the Velo for music, but still aced it for HT.

Now the PB13 is another animal. It's got nearly the output of a pair of (12.3) Pluses subs and is extremely linear from 12/15hz to 100hz. It's as tight as the Velo with far more visceral impact. Not all, but many rate it higher than the DD18 or JL Fathom (Craigsub and his gang for one, Ilkka and the AvTalk guys for others). I suggest you think about it even if you're a music only guy. Check the AVS PB13 thread...there were many comparisons in the beginning.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Depends on your wants & needs. If music is tops on your list...without hesitation it's the Velo. For HT the SVS might have a slight edge. Now for the total combo package, HT along with prowness for 2 channel listening...Velo all the way.

SVS PB13 Ultra @ 15Hz mode Plus Velo SMS-1 will give you the best of both worlds. :)

I'm running a 20-39CS+ from when they were first released (i.e. serial number less than 70), so it had the original dB12.1 driver from TC Sounds. With that driver, I'd definitely give the music edge to Velodyne. But I just upgraded to the 12.3 driver recently and it's like a whole different sub. I notice an immediate improvement with music without equalization, and once I gave it a run through with Audyssey, that sucker blows me away. It pretty much addressed my issues with its lack of musical bass, and I'm actually getting a much flatter in-room response.

Just sayin'... Don't rule them out. SVS makes a good product. If you give your general area, maybe someone's nearby who can let you audition theirs.

Owned several real subs myself and my PB13U is here to stay. With my SDA 1Cs I do not need a sub for music. For movies the PB13U tears it up;)

What I have not heard asked is what cf room do you have, that will help answer your question and if you bought a twin to your velo would you co-locate it or seperate.

There's a lot more to subs than is this brand better than that brand. You need to determine what it is you are missing that makes you want to add/upgrade, room size and lastly but not least is $s.

Might want to learn REW to better understand your room as well and think about EQing your sub. IMHO subs are the most difficult to get right. Wall treatments help as well.
