If you need almost 20 feet of wall space to run these properly, I think some of us are in trouble? Can anyone clarify 'minimum' speaker to speaker distance and distance from walls with these as not all of us have that kind of wall space. Can we work with them a bit closer to the corners?

    Thanks,

speaker to speaker distance is min of 4 feet with 6-8 optimal and 3 feet from side walls. more info in the user manuals.

    Thanks,

I'll check that out. 4 minimum plus 3x2 walls, plus about 3 for speaker width gives us an absolute minimum operating distance of 13-14'. I suppose I can work with that..perhaps?

I don't really understand how all this works... but

I had a cardboard box about three feet lateral to the SDA, and that's where the sound was coming from. I moved the box, and now the far wall is the limit of the sound. In the other direction my room goes on forever, and the sound appears to come from a drumset 10-15 feet away.

And much of the stereo-neutral stuff somehow magically hangs in the air directly between the speakers. It's weird, but cool.

I am SO glad I gave the old SDA-2's another chance.

IF you REALLY want to hear what they can do.....haul them upstairs and set them up in a "normal" sized room for a day or two. Lots of funishings and carpeting in a smaller room will make them shine ! What amp/receiver are you driving them with ? They can take a bunch of power and a lot of receivers, either 2ch. or 5.1 etc. aren't the best choice for SDAs. 250 "clean"wpc is a nice level. You might want to consider partitioning off a listening room in your jumbo basement to help contain the music in a more conventionally sized space. Read the thread linked below for some info:

No problem with power, using an Adcom 2 channel 325W/channel at 4 ohms! Thanks for thread....

Also note that bass is dramatically increased by getting them super close to the wall.
(the back of the speaker close to the wall behind them).

In my H/T rig I have mine 2" away from the wall and about 7 feet apart. I sit about 8 feet back in the sweet spot.

They really shine and I have no need for a sub.

    Enjoy your new SDA's cnh!

SDA's play a lot of "games" with sound canceling to achieve their sound effect. So, a box, etc in the sound path can and will affect them.

You should have let me know. :) I have all of the original packaging material on them (including my reciept), excluding the boxes and would have willingly scanned for you!

Seriously, is there any place to post that sort of stuff around here? I'd scan the material I have and contribute but would not like to see it eventually get lost in the 'sea' of posts here.

    Hi Hill,

Are you familiar with www.polksda.com because that's where I dug up a manual for SDAs?

Perhaps we should have a sticky for this on this site?
