The year of the House Purchase......

I have what has to be one of the most ignorant roommates in the world. Aside from all the other reasons of his mental ineptitude status, his comments last night were enough to seriously bug.......

A while back he kept making comments about me getting my 40" tv out of storage. For the following few weeks he kept mentioning that he would move his TV into his bedroom and then put mine downstairs. I decided to rectify this problem he had with me wanting to watch shows downstairs by going and buying a TV, so out shopping I went. I purchased a Sony 52XBR6 and was set to have it delivered within a week and a half. He heard from the other roommate that I had actually went out and bought one and then when he came home (he's a pilot) he said that he didn't want his TV in his room blah blah blah. So I ended up putting my TV in my bedroom (can we say sleep deprivation?).

A few months ago I bought a set of SRT's. Initially the plan was to put them in storage until I could make proper use of them, but I opted to keep them in the condo for climate reasons. They were going to basically just hang out there until after winter, but I had mentioned that I was going to hook them up and run them for a little while to test them out etc. My neighbors were all politely notified and I got the thumbs up to run them at full blast, so yesterday I got them all wired up and connected to my B&K 307, Sony Blu-Ray player, and the SRT Control box.

The only parts that I don't have connected are the subs on each channel because I don't have the right amount of sub cables. I had enough hooked up though to test them out and play around with them. Moron comes home from a trip and within 30 minutes said he didn't like how the speakers were taller than his TV and asked if I could put the tops of the SRT's on the floor (?!?!?!?!?!?!) "No dumbshit, they're not going on the floor" is my thought.....

This guy had the opportunity to have a 52" HDTV SRT surround setup in the place, and he opts to go with the 31" basic tv that has the most annoying high pitched squeal to it.

Where do these people come from?

Oh ya.....he has mentioned to the other roommate that he might be buying a smal LCD to put in his room so i can bring my TV downstairs......but that lil twit can suck it if he thinks he's getting another chance at this........dipsh!t.......

So towards the end of this year, I'm going to be looking to buy a house.

I'm not having a bad day......I just can't fathom how someone could be serious about NOT wanting to watch TV on 52" HDTV and then listen to music/movies through a badass SRT setup. That takes a special type of moron if you ask me..........

It really shouldn't surprise me......this is a guy that spent weeks 'researching' portable speakers for his laptop and ended up spending $50 for some sort of expandable magnetic speakers to take with him. He's a **** through and through........

    Brett,

I hear all your frustrations, except that I do own my own home. Earlier this year, I allowed two friends to move in to a spare bedroom, because they were looking to save up some money for future life goals. They were to help me out around the house and pay half the bills in return. Win-Win for all. Except I've come to find they're the most lazy people on this green planet.

It's a constant struggle to not scream at them to get off their asses. But I don't want to kill the friendship. I mean, I work a full and a part time job to have money to put into the house. They're currently on unemployment because they got layed off from their seasonal jobs. Yet, do you think they're looking for jobs? Nah, they're soaking unemployment 'til their seasonal jobs come back around. And they complain because they "didn't have time" to do something I ask them to do... or they don't have the money to do X, usually as a direct result of them not getting healthcare.

I guess I've come to find out what kind of people my friends really are in all this... And even though it's my house, I don't feel like I can say anything, because it's far from my job to tell them how to live their lives.

And yet, in this "money saving" time, one of my friends decided he needed a PS3 so that he could get Dark Knight on Blu-Ray the night it came out. First, you're not saving money. Second, you have a 20" TV, why do you need to see Dark Knight in BLU-RAY??!?! It was actually distracting to me, because everything was too sharp on that little TV
    Ludicrous gibs!

Just think of the freedom you'll have when you get a house. That'll motivate you, BIG time. I could NEVER go back to an apt. I'd rather get a single-wide, than that.
Luckily, the nearest house to me is about 50 yards away. I get to CRANK it!:D

This guy has control issues to the point that he told me that I could have all my knives that I wanted, just as long as I stored the block on the top shelf of the pantry so it wasn't on the kitchen counters. If I had no control, I'd have beat his **** a long time ago.......lol.

 Well, any room mates you might have had, before the big event last year that is, of course, might have been sufficiently intimidated by that desired absence of clothing when strolling around inside the shared residence to not ever give you any trouble whatsoever and stay well out of your way! Maybe Brett should try that approach with his pilot friend?!

That is by far one of the weirdest, albeit fitting, posts I think I have read here in a while.

Good luck with your dumb roommate and hopefully finding a home. I gotta admit, it is really nice to have your own place to come home to after a long day at work.

Build a house instead, that way you can make sure everything is done just the way you want it and you don't have to settle for how someone else wanted it :)

I'll start looking around in the near future to just get an eye on what's out there and what i do/do not like.

Now is not the time to build a custom home. We are seeing that it may cost more to build a new home now than what it will appraise for...especially custom homes where the owner will often "upgrade" stuff to suit their tastes that adds little in the way of market value. While you may be able to get labor cheaper, most materials (excluding lumber) are going up about 10-12%. In most markets there are brand new spec homes for sale well under cost...which is precicely what is driving market prices down. SLC may be vastly different than some places...but in most of the country it is one of the best buyers markets that I have seen in my 30 years of dealing with this stuff.

negotiate not only price, but stuff int he house that needs fixing......furnace old? new furnace please. they say no, walk away and see if there attitude changes ;)

You're right shack, I didn't mean it seriously though. It's just nice to have things exactly the way you want them instead of settling for the way they have been set up by someone else. If it means saving a lot of cash though, some settling may be in order :)
