So some of you already know about my xbox 360 going under single red ring of death and I went and got a new one.

So now my brand new xbox 360 is showing patches of yellow here and there. I don't get it. It comes and goes like interference or something. Nothing has changed in my wiring. I just unplugged the old box and installed the new one. I didn't replace a single cable. Mine are all managed in my Salamander tripple 20.

Anyone here ever see yellow spots show up and then go away?? Before I rip out all the wires and replace them, I wondering if it's just the cables or the xbox which will go back as fast as it came in.

Could just be a bad 360. One of my 11 had a bad GPU, and it started with bizarre blotches of color on the screen and went quickly downhill from there.

Or you could just have the cabling too close to a power cord. Could be anything, really. But if you do take your 360 back and get a new one, look through the serial number slot for the power rating. You want to get one with a 12.1A rating instead of 14.2. That will ensure that you get one of the Jasper systems with the new cooler GPU.

I was hoping on this but it's not the case. it only does it with the Xbox360. I could have told my wife this IS the case and pick up a Pioneer Elite Kuro 60 inch. I have been wanting one for some time now.

I have the brand new model with the 60g hard drive with the 12.1a rating. It's brand new. I did however figure out my problem. Strange but I fixed it. When I swapped out a few cables and cleaned behind the rack, I plugged in the composite cable into video 5 on the Rotel just to get it from hanging in the back of the rack. it took sometime but I removed that connection and the video problem went away.
I first tested the Xbox component cable directly to the tv, I figured the preamp might be going(yeah baby , time for a new one) but this was not the case. it was the composite video cable .

Dan, since your new company carries B&K gears, have you been able to compare side by side between REF50S2 and REF70? curious.

Wow... you're officially the first person I've seen get a 12.1 amp Jasper chipset with the 60gb package. Up to now, the only reports have been with the Arcade version. Good to see them spreading quickly.

No but I could. I can tell you a lot about the new Ref70 as I have been playing with the one on the floor for a week and I have installed a few already (also the avr707 which is the same thing).
I would even mind getting the AVR707 and being done with it. No seperate amp , no Interconnects needed and plenty of power to rock the house.

The things I noticed about the Ref 70 is the following in comparsion.

    1) No zone 2. They removed the ability to run a 2nd zone. I don't understand this move as I may not every use it but it would be nice for it to be there. Many jobs require a pair on the deck or in the Kitchen/ Dinningroom. The zone 2 out always gave a nice little speakers in another room bonus without having to buy another pre and if you got the receiver, you need nothing but the wire. Nice.
    2) No THX. Again I don't understand dropping something that is very useful. Most rooms can benefit from this. I always enjoyed having it rather then not.

So on with the new features, it has 3 notch filters. Ok this is nice but it's not room EQ. I would prefer to have some kind of in room Calibration. Who has a perfect room? Not many. Why they didn't add something puzzles me.
No Internal processing for DD HD or DTS HD. Right now it's not there. The piping is there as it's HDMI 1.3b spec so it's ready for the upgrade later this year. I believe I have heard next month but we will see. I want internal processing so I can choose where my decoding is happening. When Cable or DSS goes HD audio , you will have the ability to decode it in the processor where it is suppose to happen.
6 HDMI inputs. This is awesome. I'm all 4 6 HDMI in's I will use them all. I love it.
14 inputs. Now I think thats a bit overkill but if you wanna hook it up, you can. It's got room for everything you own. Nice
All balanced out. This I love. If you have some problems or Interference possibilities, you can run balanced for a nice tight clean transfer of signal. I don't care sending single ended but Balanced is the way to go for no other reason for piece of mind.
Balanced cd in. Excellent for the guy who wants to pull double duty with this preamp and have a high end cd player or external dac with balanced out's. This is really nice.
So S video and composite jacks have been removed. But you still can use these connections with a reconfiguration of the component video inputs. You use one connection for composite and 2 for S video. Ok it's hoky doky but it gets the job done IF you need to do it. I could care less.
On screen is all new. You will have to relearn the menu systems. It's completely different then the older models. I like it ok , it's Kinda like how Denon does it now and Yamaha with the sideways menu system.

Sound quality is as usual fantastic. Very impressive as it sounds like a high end preamp. I have absolutely no complaints on sound quality. It's everything you expect from B&K and more.

Video quality is also super. It has a very good scaler built in an d alot of control. If video processing is your game, you will like the B&K.

I have not spoken to our B&K rep to settle up on my concerns and about the upgrade to built in HD audio plus whatever they are going to do with the Auto calibration. I heard they are adding one but I don't know who is doing it.

Thanks for the rundown of the new REF70 features, Dan. It is a deal breaker for not having internal processing HD, and if history holds, when B&K says that firmware upgrade is availble, it means that an owner has to pack it up and send it back to Buffalo for the upgrade work. What a PITA. I would be happy with the notches adjustment only and the HDs; and if somebody can say that 2 channel audio is *noticeably better* than REF50S2, then I am all ears to upgrade.

I hate it 2 man. I really was hoping this was a home run and could go in and bring it home. But with all it's short comings, I'm mad at it. I don't know if it's a lot better then the ref50. Thats already a killer preamp from the past. It would be nice if B&K could add HDMI and processing in it. That would be really nice.
So yeah you are correct about packing up and sending it out. But If you wait until the upgrade is out, then the new models will ship already upgraded. This is what I want to find out from our rep. If thats the case, I will hold off until the units are ready. Then I will get one. I also want to know everything about the room correction they are planning to do. I'm so wanting to know.
I will post everything I find out man. And if your interested, I will get a you a killer deal on one.
On a side not you still running my first Rotel love in the rsx1065 in your bedroom???

Great! Thanks for including me in the progress of REF70. I'll definitely be interested to see where things are once they have the released version with HD processing.

The Rotel has gone to a new owner, several years ago (boy, time flies), I think sometimes end of 2004, when I switched over to Krell 400xi Integrated. The Rotel would be an overkill, since I wasn't about to setup another 5.1 in my bedroom. I do miss the Rotel sound quality, though.

Wow I don't remember you selling it. That receiver is what started me on my Rotel quest. I still remember my first job with Soundex. Rotel rsx1065, Dynaudio Audience 42 fronts , 122c center and 42w rears with a sub 20 . The tv was a Pioneer Elite rear projection Pro 720hd . DVD was a Pioneer Elite dv38a. All wired with Transparent. HD cablebox as well. Man that system blew me away. I could not believe how damn good it sounded. I was sold right out of the box.

I talked to a B&k rep yesterday and he told me the following.

No internal decoding that he knows about is being added to the ref70.
No auto calibration system is being added to the ref70 as far as he knows.

There is however a software update being released to address some current problems that the ref70 has.

He asked me where I heard this and I told him online avs forum and a few other places talking about it. he just chuckled.

I'm not cool with this at all. The B&K in my opinion with no THX , NO 2nd zone , NO xm or Sirus , No Ipod connection , No room correction except 3 notch filters , NO internal decoding is not that desirable of a preamp. I think I would rather have the Marantz.

If you only have up to 4 video sources of any kind, your golden with this preamp, If you need more, you will need a HDMI switcher. It has a total of 4 video anything inputs. I don't care about that. Thats on the light side.

I went to Hi Fi house today to check it out and they didn't have it on the floor or even in the store. They are a Marantz dealer but deal with manly there receivers. I was not cool with that as I really wanted to put my hands on it.
They have REL so I got a cool Sumiko Demo with Krell.

How's the newer release of REL series, beyond the Strata, Storm, etc. series, Dan? better, or different?

I am done with subs, so it has to be something catastrophic before I need to look for a new sub.

No man, the xbox 360 component cable has a analog audio and composite video thats non detachable. I would cut the **** if I thought I could without grounding out pins on the connector.

So I run my 360 in component due to NO Effin HDMI preamp.

We as usual, Rel comes out with a killer sub that can take your breath away. The B2 series is incredible. Smooth and gone in the room. Different looking in a front firing design but beautiful.

as for you upgrading, no man, well sure you could send me the Storm and you get the new B2 and we will call it a day. We will call the Storm finders fee...LOL

Anyway you would be very impressed. If you like the storm as I already know you are loving that bad boy, you would fall in love all over again with the B2. I did.
