Ok, I'm wondering if my recently installed Webroot software is the problem. Every time I run the Registry Mechanic, it says that Webroot is not responding and has to shut it down. Then I get this error that the Registry Mechanic cannot fix...It lists it as a high priority and states that my "systems health is LOW".

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Webroot\Clientregistry

So, I'm thinking of uninstalling Webroot and going back to Norton and see what happens...thoughts?

Here's something else, the computer only seems to run slow with the internet, not when doing anything else that is offline, Word, Excel, Pictures, it seems to be doing fine. So, the problem seems to be only internet related.

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Well, so far so good. I uninstalled Webroot, rebooted, ran the Registry Mechanic, Defrag'd and have been surfing the net problem free for several minutes now. No hang ups. So, I'll play around a bit more tomorrow and see how it goes. Also, now that Webroot is gone, my Registry Mechanic gives me a clean bill of heath.

I did send a technical email off to Webroot.

Seems like Webroot is the root of all evil. If all goes well it's back to Norton. I'm also going to remove Webroot from my Laptop.

So, how can I reinstall Norton without having to buy it as it came on my computers when I bought them and have no discs?

That's going to be a bit of challenge to reinstall Norton with no disc. Your option is to get a new copy off ebay (Norton Internet Security, I assume, which run for about $22/copy). I used to get Norton from Ebay, for three machines that I have, one at a time), then I moved to MS Onecare (www.onecare.live.com) and it covers 3 machines for $49 total. The nice thing about Onecare, it also manage scheduled Tune Ups once per month, and also back up (as often as you like em scheduled). So, for both of your PC and laptop, it will provides you with these features, and worth it. Check it out, Ron. Your Norton is only valid for 1 year, right? did you just renew it? Which version do you have? (NIS is updated every year, not just the virus definition, but also the interface/program), but I supposed you could just buy the virus definition updates.

Well, it's running great, no issues at all, so Webroot was the problem. At this point, I'm just going to stick with the Window's stuff and leave it at that.

Thanks again for all you help bro!!!

Okie dokie, now: do you have some AV and firewall running? There are freebies available if you need them. Use that external hard drive you bought to back things up anyway. Please.
    Alea jacta est!

I cannot find a "backup" icon to backup my HDD. I looked a what you posted below but there's nothing there titled "Backup". Any other place I might be able to find it?

Ron, get an external HDD with USB, plug-it-in, and go to XP - Accessories - System Tools - Backup.

For backup you need a backup software, it doesnt come free with most PCs. There might be a backup program in your new external HD. If it is there then install it and use it for backup. if not then you have two options:

    1. Manually backup file: i-e copy all your data files to external HD.
    2. Purchase a backup software, a good candidate would be one by your Anti virus/Anti-Spyware vendor. This way beckup can be run on schedules with anti virus.
