The other half and I are trying to quit smoking together (22 years me, 4 years her), and also to cut back expenses by getting and keeping all balances at zero. I am also going to try to spend more time with family.

Anyone still doing/breaking these? Happy New Year!

I did this last year and totally missed your meaning. Good luck! My focus has been to treat my smoking, which I started in 1973, as an addiction and take it one day at a time. Cold turkey, I quit in 11/07 with no aides (been there done that), no nothing. Just me against the craving. :D

I resolve to treat every day as a holiday and every meal as a feast :D

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Cold Turkey!!! The only way to quit smoking, imho. Smoke-free for.......hell I can't remember anymore. I smoked Camels for over 22 yrs. So I guess that puts it around 5-6 yrs.

I resolved to start drinking again, and did.:D

Good luck wiht the quitting. Just remember that many others have done it, so you can too :)

I've stopped doing the New Years resolution thing, because it usually means I end up binging before New Years on whatever it is I'm trying to quit. If you want to do something, just do it, don't wait for some arbitrary point to start it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Instead of the 'resolution' timeline to do the typical lose weight, go to the gym, blah blah.....I actually started up about 2 months ago. I've had a few missed weeks with being on the road traveling, but I'm to the point where I have enough time in where i can go somewhere on the road and not feel like a complete fish out of water.

My ultimate goal is to drop 60 pounds this year. While true I have been going to the gym regularly, I tend to either do the gym, or eat right, but rarely both at the same time (no reason other than just being dumb).

I've been trying to watch MUCH closer what I'm eating, and am about to start keeping a food journal to keep myself more accountable for what's being eaten.

Some people don't like to have scales around because they get into a 'number mindset' but I prefer it as a regular reminder to keep on track....Yes the 'number' is a goal, but there's no point in my life that I'm going to be looked at as anything remotely anorexic......lol.....

Don't know if we'll quit the nasty habit this year, but debt pay-off is a BIG priority for us this year--and a plan is in place to make it happen.

Cut down on smoking and drinking (while I pour myself a 151 and coke [but football is on, so you have to drink. right?!?]). Trying to be realistic, so cutting back will do for now.

It's time to get off my ****. I haven't really worked for almost 2 years (semi retired at 46), but the money I have is running low and I am getting fat and bored. I will be joining my wife in the comming weeks running the real estate company she's working for now, so the couch potato(e) thing going on now will not do!

P.S. JFAIL2, congrats on the football pool (missed it this year), and I can't believe that is your signature. That is one of my favorite lines of all time! (used it many times myself in everyday conversation).

Drop another pant size, in the last two years I've gone from a 42 (occasional 44) to a 38, I wonder if I can get to a 36. Bench press in the 300's haven't done either (the pant size or the BP) since HS. 20 years later it's time to see what I'm made of!

Good luck on that tx_polkhead. I'm pretty much made of beer and butts. I got new pants for xmas, and my wife wanted to take them back because they were to tight on me. I told her not to, that increasing your pant size regularly is not the solution to a wider waist. I just need to drop a bunch of pounds (sorry, they were 32s, my size for the last 15 yrs). Yes they are damn tight, but I am determined to get them to fit right.

Don't give in to the increase in pant size. I consider that the same as getting a larger fish tank. You would just grow into them. :D

What I failed to mention in my analogy is that I was a 34 waist and my wife decided that my pants were too tight. I tried the 36 (this was in 1997) and now in 2009 these are too tight but I ain't budging. :D

    My New Years resolution.

To realize, do not have to wait for a new year to resolve, many times, its too late to. I just know, with each new year, is another year gained in life and a shorter year til death. I have plenty of regrets, who doesnt? However, many things are still in my own control. Instead of being greedy and constantly thinking of me, I want to think for others. Meaning, I could have many bad habits or debts or whatever it may be, those are my own to correct. Reflecting back on life as a complete picture, there is nothing but people among me. Those close such as family members, close friends or simply loved ones, and there are those that are complete strangers. I just know this. With each passing year, someone could pass away, from sickness or sudden. My number one regret, is losing a close one without ever giving them more attention. People die everyday. The thing is, most of the time, I do not know them, but.... It strikes to the marrow, home, more often now. As I age, so do all the ones that saw me grow up. Just a realization of time, time....

My resolution. Treat everyday as its my first time and enjoy the memories forever, cause if I live it like my last, I am not living. Respect to all those that have passed away. A little prayer each time passing a graveyard or anything good that happens, is everlasting.
