Replacement driver/woofers for Bose 601 II

First, my 10As are more important to me but....
I was given a pair of Bose 601 series II. They are missing the driver / woofer. (2 each) The guy's kid took them out for his car stereo years ago. The kid was nice enough (i guess) to put 1 radioshack driver in each speaker tho...lol.
Anyway, I love the tweeter array and want to try to pair them as surround speakers. I need to replace the drivers but Bose no longer offers them.

Anyone know of a good replacement or where I might fond something. Bose or aftermarket? I was hoping someone else had this issue. I know this isn't Polk related and hope I'm not doing anything wrong.(I'm new here)

Call Partsexpress and they should be able to recommend a comparable driver. Given the quality of the originals, it won't cost you much.

    lol,
I did call them. 7-1/4" inside dia. limits choices somewhat.
    They recommended a pioneer. $43
Bose used to have a replacement for $46. can't get them direct anymore.

Well, either spend $86 on speakers worth $23, or, get out a router and make the holes bigger to open up your options, or, chunk them and get some speakers that will make you smile.

Pick up a pair of M3's or M5's for less than $75 and be a happy camper when they mate real well with those monitor 10s.

I have to say that ALL my other speakers are POLK, but these 601s are CERTAINLY worth putting $100 to $150 into. They are in mint condition otherwise. The tweeter array sounds great in the upstairs bedrooms.
I have a Cape cod, room has slope and is about 25' x 30' and those tweeters make the sound fill ALL the room. Great speaker for my bedroom, sounds like surround w/ only 2 speakers.
I may use a router , I was hoping for advise of BRAND of driver or particular model if anyone has done this before.

BTW, I currently use a pair of Polk S4 for side surround, I just have a feeling about that tweeter array.

I actually like the 601's - anyone local with them contact me and I will take 'em off your hands for a while. The 601's and some series of the 901's are arguably pretty good speakers.

I think the 7 1/4" drivers are actually 8" and you can catch them on e-bay fairly often. Measure the backet and see what you really have..

    Correct, they are 8".
Any idea where I can get opinions or reviews on 8" drivers?
I'd like to know what Brand people around here consider quality drivers (8").

This place has some 8" woofers for a Bose 601 Series 3. I'm not sure if that would fit or not. It says it requires a 7" cutout diameter. They're used I guess, but it says they've been re-foamed and they have good voice coils.

Scroll down a bit and you'll see them, they're about halfway down the page.

Check ebay. I seem to remember them having replacements, and foam repair kits pretty cheap.
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    lol.....
I don't know how comfortable I am with used.
    I'll probably go aftermarket.
Just ordered tweeters for my 10As from Polk.
I may order drivers too (4). Mine are fine but...see below.....

Bums me out , because the last time I called Bose I could have bought the drivers/woofers for the 601s from them. Not any more tho. Now I worry same might happen with Polk.

Anywhere else to get speaker replacement besides Parts Express? (taht anyone would recommend)

I can't get the 8" drivers from Bose. I am going to have to go aftermarket. I notice there is an 8" woofer in the Polk Lsi15. Think that might work?
I have Polk 10As with smaller drivers. Are there any "older" model Polks that used 8" wooders or drivers?
    Thanks

His website is not greatest and has not been updated since I first bought from them, but the guy is great. On the "Brand List" he has the 8" Bose mid/woofer listed for 49.00.

Damn I am getting old, I can't remember the dude's name, it is a one man show, so he might not answer on the first call.
