Problem with Monitor 70 crossovers

Hello everyone, I got a little problem and hopefully I can get some insight to what may have happened. My friend has the Monitor 70's for his front speakers and he blew the tweeters out of both of them at the same time. He purchased 2 new tweeters from Polk and when we hooked them up they were barely working and all of the woofers sounded like they were being choked. They all sounded really thin and distorted. I hooked the new tweeters up to my rti12's and they sounded great like they are supposed to. So could both of the crossovers have gone bad in the monitor 70's at the same time like the tweeters did or is it something else?

Yes. If the speakers were being pushed that hard the tweeters were both blown there's a good chance the crossover sustained damage too. Remove the crossover (pull out all the front drivers, unplug the wires, then unscrew the input cup on the back), look at the circuit board and if anything looks burnt, melted, cracked, charred etc the x'over is damaged too.
