Sub Popping/ Clipping

Hey polks.
Really like the info available here.
I need an answer to a situation that has just started with my home system
My sub the Polk PSW 450 made a loud popping noise during two moves we watched the other day (Hellboy 2 & Dark Night) As you can see we use the system for action movies. The pop happened once during each movie, I tuned the volume down a little and it hasn't happened since. I would like to know if this is a precursor to the sub being on its way out and if I should start shopping? Also will turning the gain down a little prolong the life of the sub? (its a little over half right now) The amp/receiver I am running is the Yamaha HTR 5280
Thanks and the best of Holidays to you all! Al,

did anyone inadvertently change any of the settings on the receiver? (LFE, bass settings, etc)
is the power cord plugged in tightly to the outlet and back of unit (if applicable) -
Hey XJRGUY
Thanks for the response'
To answer your questions, No know one touched the system, its all built into the wall and none of the parameters were changed on the receiver . I checked the power connections and they are all good and tight
