Optical V. Coax Audio Connection

Is there any true difference between the two or are they going to do the same for me? I currently have a Optical for my XBOX and a Coax for my BD Player. Should I leave the Coax for my BD player or buy an optical cable when I get a new receiver?

as long as the audio is heard from your XBox to the receiver or from your BD player to the receiver.. doesn't matter which one you use.. both do the job just fine. It's when you don't hear anything that becomes a problem.

if it bugs you switch it out.. i use both types of cables.. i can't tell the difference.. and both work as they should.

They should work the same, but when you get a new reciever, get an HDMI cable to hook up the BD player. You won't get the HD audio codecs with optical or coax.

I asked the same question not to long ago...someone posted up this page for me to read.

It's a pretty interesting read...what it really comes down to though is whichever sounds better in your ear. Neither one is really superior to the other. They both do the same thing, and they both do it well. You've just gotta get both, and test them out, and see what your preference is.

Yup. It's ok with an older receiver that doesn't have Dolby TruHD, Dolby Digital Plus or DTS Master Audio HD, but use the HDMI if you have any of the above.
