"Dual" Velo's & pics!!

Well, I finally got my NAD T773 back from the repair shop & could now complete my system with the Dual Velo SPL-1200R subs. The AAD 2001 monitors, that I absolutely love, are by no means bass shy. Hell, they can dig down deep to 25-30hz & literally fill my 3000>cu ft room with ease. What I was trying to accomplish was to bring myself closer to the "Live" experience.

In my book to accomplish this I needed to add that 3rd dimension which is the powerfull bass foundation. By adding the Dual Velos to the equation I reached & even surpassed my goal, I was literally floored with what I was now experiencing! I started off by ordering these filters (65 & 85hz) to play around with. The 65hz filters sounded the best to my ears. http://audioc.com/accessories1/misc/hipass.htm

Now my Nikko amp (300w dual mono) is pumping it's warm sounding power to the AAD's mid's & tweets at 65hz & up. What a difference once the power robbing bass notes are removed from the single box cabinet. The mid's & highs have literally blossomed in the areas that they are meant to excell at.

Now for the powerfull bass, with over 1,000w (each sub) dedicated to nothing but pure bass the results are simply incredible. The location of the Velo's worked out simply great. The auto EQ with the supplied mic works like a charm. Now I adjusted the phase & volumn for perfect, seemless integration. Nothing, & I mean nothing is even remotely localized. It sounds like I'm in front of the stage. Simply incredible to my ears!!. Whether at low or high volumn the experience is just that...more of an enjoyable "experience"

Man am I diggin this!!! :D:D

Oh yeah, that's a real nice setup. Glad you're lovin' on it. One day I want to re-establish dual subs in my 2-channel system. Just don't have the space right now.

Pear -- I know you've been down the preamp road before, but I'll bet you'll benefit from a decent, dedicated 2-channel preamp, especially since you're getting better mids and highs.

BTW -- I'm shocked that you still have your speakers after some 3-4 years. I'm gonna be like you when I grow older. ;)

Early...yeah baby!!!! My place is rocking big time...those Velo's really set the stage with their bass foundation! As far as adding a dedicated pre into the mix, I've thought about it again, but let me tell you the NAD really does an excellent job in 2 channel mode. I don't know if spending more money there would really give me an upgrade???

Yeah, I'm still rockin with the AAD 2001 monitors!!!! I've listened to plenty others but none have even remotely tempted me to make a change. I really do enjoy listening to them. Someday when you're as old as me you'll understand! :)

Actually those bars are part of Phil Jones design of the 2001 series...they make them kid & cat proof!!!! No fingers or claws getting to those woofers or tweets!!! :D

Only kidding, but they really do serve a purpose in his design. They aid in dispertion & they do a great job of it. The off-axis listening field is downright scary. Joe was floored at how well the soundstage was still as if you were sitting in the sweet spot even though you might be 3 or more feet on either side. The speakers are invisible in the room, nothing but great sound from anywhere in the room. Just another reason I still have them 4yrs later, much to Early's shagrin!!!

Yep...funky & gorgeous at the same time. The stands go for about $1200... notice I don't have them!! But the combo looks stunning to me, I just wasn't going to spend that kind of coin on just the stands.

By the way, my wife didn't like the look of the stands at all but she adors the speakers. There you go.

By all means Mike go for it. Here's the one I have, the Son of Q 1500 watt version. Plenty of outlets for all my componets. I've had it for a couple of years now & "YES" it makes one hell of a difference. Video & audio take a hugh leap forward in performance, both visually & audibly. http://www.equitech.com/products/rack/sonofqav.html

    Yep, two wood veneered cubes....awesome.

If you don't already, get some of those filters he linked for your goody box. They're excellent if you change things often, or not, but you should always have them handy.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm running everything thru the Equitech Son of Q, TV, amps, subs, CD, NAD, cable box, etc. Size wise the Q series are all the same. The difference is in the power capability. The Son of Q is the 1500 watt version. And yes it makes a world of difference. http://www.equitech.com/products/rack/sonofqav.html

EB...they're 20" Target stands filled with lead shot that I've had since the early 80's (I just pimped them out a little :D) They were mated with my first pair of "Great" speakers...ProAc Studio 100's & B&K ST140 amp & pre. Damn that was an awesome rig!!

Ah Ok its a 1500 watter. In your pic it looks smallish but they apparently like to wind their trannies to have a low profile to keep the chassis height reasonable.

Tony, yep! those 2 Velos are really sweet for both HT & 2 channel. Here's where I bought the speaker stand for over the TV. It works great & can handle a pretty good amount of weight. The center I have weights around 30lb. & isn't a problem. http://www.standsandmounts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3917
