I have a pair of A-7s on order. I listened to them and the A-5s. I was very impressed with both, granted i have not been at this long, and cant really pick out the little things about sound. I have read a few posts here about the A-7s being too "Bassy", so im getting nervous. Is this a good speaker? What adjustments should i make as far as the bass issue goes? What is the optimal setup? I will be adding an amp soon, will this help? Im a newbie, so any help would be great. Here is my setup:
Sony 46w4100 Lcd Tv
Yamaha Rxv-663 A/V
Mains: Rti-7s L/R, (Ordered)
Center: Csi-3
Rears: 3 Sats, Rm6750 Package
(next upgrade)
Klipsch Sub-12
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have had a pair since this past summer and I love them a lot. To my ears, they sound just right and I don't find them too bassy.

Nice grab. Adding an external amp will be a plus.

I have the identical receiver (model number different but internals the same) with the same speakers, and you will be very pleased I think. I did a little tweaking to actually add a little bass. The sound will depend largely on your room but that receiver and those speakers in my setup sound fantastic.

Hey guys, Thanks for the responses. Im at ease now. The speakers sounded great at store, and they look great. I think i made a good choice. I realize there will be a sound difference of course, my room compared to store, but im sure everything is "tweakable".
Fongolio: Your post was great for my piece of mind, seeing a similar setup. Thanks much.

Excellent speakers. I suggest getting rid of the Yamaha 663. It will do but will not do justice to the 7's. Down the road look to get into a Pioneer ELite receiver. They sound so much better driving Polk speakers. I suggest the vsx01 which is there entry level receiver but man does it sound good at it's price point. I feel it's the best bang for the buck out there in todays market.
If you have the ability to go higher, then I suggest the 05 or 07, now your 7's will sing like never before.

    Good luck with your system.

I had my eye on the Emotiva Xpa-5, or Xpa-3 Power Amp, to partner up with the Yamaha. Would this be a good setup?, or do you still advise a different rec.? (Pioneer).

Welcome Retro. By all means get the XPA-5 now & see how you like the sound. The amp will stay with you through all other upgrades that you make.

Thanks Cfrizz, This has been a great site for info. I had visited a few other Forums, were to my Surprise, wasnt given the warm welcome and advice that has been offered here. To my chagrin and disappointment even Senior members were very Condescending and Inhospitable. This has been a Refreshing experience for me. Thanx Much.

I have to disagree in principle with what Mantis is saying about get rid of the Yamaha and buy an Elite receiver. My Yamaha is actually a replacement for a Pioneer Elite VSX-52TXi and I was nervous at first waiting for it to ship but when it arrived and I hooked it up I was not in the least bit disappointed. Yes, the sound is different but not bad in any way. Until you've done a side by side comparison in the same room with the same equipment I think generalized statements like this brand is better than that brand should be taken with a grain of salt. And no offence to Manits, I know he loves his Elite's. So do I but the change to the Yamaha was in no way a "downgrade". And YES to the Emotiva if that's the route you are thinking. The Yamaha has pre-outs and would mate with the Emotiva very well.

Yes, I am happy with the Yamaha, but open to advice about equipment etc. I think i will go with the additional amp for now, to enhance the A-7s and i think everything else. Both posts were very helpful.

FWIW, I have a 663 and an xpa-5 powering some LSis and it sounds terrific, imo, depending somewhat upon the CD being played.

Pioneer Elites may be vastly better; I've never heard one. Nonetheless I feel pretty confident that adding an amp will be of more immediate benefit than upgrading the receiver.
