I am looking to get a surge protector, but need to do it on the cheap. thingfling.com has the Phillips SPP4200WA17 for 50 bucks. Anybody have any experience with this?

Have never owned one,but I think I will soon...I'm using a Triplite protector now,a very solid unit, but not very eye appealing.

Nice looking unit, and the price is right...Thanks

I look at it like this. My house is insured and protected against various elements. It just makes sense to protect my audio gear.

Other than my amps,, all of my audio and video gear is plugged into battery backup/line conditioner and/or surge protection.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

For 50 bucks, I can't you going wrong here. It's not a high end surge or conditioner but you should be able to protect your gear. Just watch it's current limitations. This can rob your gear of performance. Depending on the level of your gear, you may be harming then helping.

If you save some money , I suggest looking into Panamax. They do it best and at the right price. All there units are fantastic.

    Good luck with this,

This may be outside your price range, but it could be of interest to you or others. Buy.com has the Belkin PureAV PF60 for ~154 bucks link. Several Polkies have one, and I just picked one up. This price is after $50 rebate, so you'd have to front the extra cash up front, which may compound the "on the cheap" aspect.

Your linked one looks hard to beat for the price, especially if you want the component-style protector.

    Good luck in your search!
