Merry Christmas everyone.

How bout a little amp help.

I have noticed lately that my Carver m-200t is making a noise. It makes it when it is hooked up and when it has nothing hooked into it. The only way to describe it is to say that it sounds like a old tractor.

" Putt-putt-putt-putt-putt-putt."
John Deere green. Get it?:D

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a case of old electrolytic caps, which need to be replaced in the power supply.

If you can't do it yourself, Bob Carver can do it for you!

Well, your sound definitely is deteriorated, since the filter caps are drying up.

For $170 USD + shipping, Bob/Rita will rework your entire amp, not just fix this problem. Also, if the filter caps will fail/short, you might end up with the dead amp.

My TFM-24 is going to them in the spring. They just (re)opened, so the line-up from Carver forum looks to be pretty long :).

Thanks for all the help guys!! But one more question.. If I was going to do this myself where do I get the electrolytic caps and how do I put them in. Sorry I just cant bring myself to spending more on a amp than I payed if I can fix it myself. Thank you

"If I can fix it" being the key operative words here. These aren't your typical layout internally and should only be trusted to someone who has the gear to test things as they go. If you have the service manual, 'scopes, meters, etc.....knock yourself out. Good luck....

You definitely have to know what you are doing with these amps... but you can buy a service manual (check Carver forums for the sources), and the parts are available from most electronics retailers (digikey, mouser, etc.).

Make sure to do the proper diagnostics and tune up per the service manual too...
